Song Mino Military Service Scandal: Supervisor Faces One-Year Prison Request

Prosecutors have requested a one-year prison sentence for the former supervisor accused of mishandling WINNER's Song Mino's alternative military service. The request came during a hearing at the Seoul Western District Court on Wednesday.

The court's 10th criminal single-judge division held the fourth hearing for the former supervisor of the Mapo district community welfare facility, identified only as A, who was indicted for violating the Military Service Act. The session included questioning of the defendant.

"Please consider that the defendant played an essential role in enabling Song Mino to be absent without leave for an extended period, and actively took steps to avoid detection by supervising authorities," prosecutors told the court. They asked the bench to sentence A to one year in prison.

A is accused of helping Song Mino skip work without authorization from May 30, 2023 to December 2 of the following year. Prosecutors say A falsified attendance records or logged the absences as sick leave or annual leave. During questioning, A denied conspiring with Song Mino but admitted to negligence in managing attendance. A asked the court for a suspended sentence.

At an earlier hearing, prosecutors requested a one year and six month prison sentence for Song Mino.

The first-ruling verdict for both Song Mino and A is scheduled for October 1 at 10 a.m. KST.
