KATSEYE's 'WILD' Era: Group Tops Domestic and Global K-POPIT BOARD Power Indexes
Girl group KATSEYE has claimed the top spot on both the domestic and global sides of K-pop's key performance tracker. The push comes on the heels of the group's new EP, with heightened buzz coinciding with strong fandom activity.
According to K-POPIT BOARD, a K-pop analytics index, KATSEYE ranked No. 1 on the domestic Power Index (PWR(KR)) on Aug. 21 with a score of 75.4. The group also topped the Global Power Index (PWR(GL)) with 68.2 points.
KATSEYE released its third EP, "WILD," on Aug. 14 to kick off its comeback promotions. The group dropped a music video for "Hootie Frutti" alongside the EP. Two days before that, on Aug. 12, the film "KATSEYE: WILD HEARTS" arrived, showing the group's rise and behind-the-scenes moments and adding to the buzz surrounding the comeback.
The steady stream of content coincided with strong media attention. The Media Attention Score (MAS), which tracks media and public interest based on domestic entertainment reporting, hit 96.3, the highest of the group's sub-metrics. The EP release and film premiere landed close together, putting KATSEYE firmly in the spotlight.
Fandom numbers were also strong. The Fandom Health Index (FHI), which measures the activity and staying power of a fanbase using YouTube engagement and social media activity, came in at 84.3. The D-tier also jumped 169%, marking another notable increase among the group's indicators.
Streaming, though, has not spiked at the same pace. Domestic Spotify numbers were flat week-over-week, while U.S. Spotify slipped 2%. Global YouTube ticked up 2%. Set against an MAS of 96.3 and an FHI of 84.3, the figures suggest KATSEYE's current momentum is showing up more strongly in media attention and fandom activity than in week-over-week streaming growth.
KATSEYE launches "THE WILDWORLD TOUR" in Dublin in September. With the group topping both the domestic and global power indexes and its D-tier up 169%, attention now turns to whether the current buzz will translate into stronger streaming numbers as the group heads into its global tour.
