Red Velvet "Surfin' Boy" Remixes Through iScreaM Project to Release Today
Red Velvet's "Surfin' Boy" is getting two new interpretations through SM Entertainment's iScreaM remix project.
iScreaM Vol.40 : Surfin' Boy Remixes will be released on August 28 at 1 p.m. KST, featuring remixes by Flamingosis and R&B duo RAKUNELAMA.
Flamingosis, known for his future funk sound, builds on the original track's bossa nova guitar by adding tropical brass and layered choruses, giving "Surfin' Boy" a fuller and more tropical sound.
RAKUNELAMA takes the song in a different direction, reworking it as contemporary R&B with fluid bass and dense percussion. The remix emphasizes a dreamier atmosphere while retaining elements of the original's summery character.
Furthermore, two accompanying music videos will also be released, with their stories designed to connect. "Surfin' Boy (Flamingosis Remix)" follows a protagonist exhausted by the repetition of everyday life who decides to travel after seeing an advertisement for a vacation destination.
Continuing on the story, in "Surfin' Boy (RAKUNELAMA Remix)" the protagonist is waking inside a broken-down car in extreme heat. Armed only with a map, they begin walking along the road before eventually collapsing from the heat and thirst.
Originally released in August, "Surfin' Boy" blends bossa nova guitar, reggae rhythms and house grooves. Red Velvet member Joy wrote the lyrics herself, drawing on memories of spending a summer with someone special.
The new remixes mark the 40th installment of iScreaM, a project operated by SM Entertainment's dance music label ScreaM Records that invites producers and artists to reinterpret tracks from SM artists.
