Kim Soo-hyun Signals Acting Return in Indonesia Interview: "I'm Glad I Became an Actor"
Actor Kim Soo-hyun is signaling a return to acting, using an Indonesian broadcast interview to tell fans he wants to hear what roles they want to see him in next.
On Sept. 1, the official social media account of Indonesian private broadcaster RCTI+ posted an interview video with Kim Soo-hyun. The clip is a short-form edit of highlights from an interview conducted when he appeared as a special guest on "Mahakarya RCTI 37," a live special marking RCTI's 37th anniversary, held in Jakarta on Aug. 23.
Looking somewhat thinner than before, Kim Soo-hyun kept the mood light throughout the interview. He named Bali as a travel destination he wants to visit, and walked viewers through the items in his bag and a favorite denim jacket. Most notably, he said, "It makes me think I'm glad I became an actor," before adding, "I'm thinking, why not try getting character recommendations from fans." The comment raised expectations for his next project.
Kim Soo-hyun stepped back from work in March of last year, after allegations surfaced that he had dated the late Kim Sae-ron when she was a minor and pressured her over debt repayment. He acknowledged that they dated after Kim Sae-ron became an adult, but denied the claims involving a minor and the debt pressure, and took legal action.
In July, authorities reportedly concluded that the allegations involving child welfare law violations and false accusations against Kim Soo-hyun were not supported and decided not to refer the case for prosecution. Kim Se-eui, who runs the YouTube channel "Garosero Research Institute" (Gaseyeon), which raised the allegations, was arrested and indicted on charges including defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act. Investigators concluded that certain voice recording recordings and KakaoTalk chat screenshots released by Gaseyeon had been fabricated.
Kim Soo-hyun resumed overseas work first, starting with a Philippine brand endorsement in July. More recently, he has announced appearances at the 2026 The Fact Music Awards and 2026 Asia Artist Awards, picking up the pace on both domestic and overseas activities.
