'Street World Fighter' Ep. 3 Recap: Bada's Tears, Baby Zoo's Win, Vata's Cameo
Mnet's dance competition Street World Fighter: Director's War delivered another ratings win on Nov. 1, as its third episode wrapped the "1:1 Signature 400" mission and opened a new round built around the show's official track. It also gave viewers a brief on-screen appearance from dancer Vata, just hours before news broke that he would marry actress Ji Ye-eun on Dec. 12.
The episode ranked No. 1 in its time slot among viewers aged 20 to 49 across cable and general programming channels for the third week in a row. It also topped the 15 to 39 demographic for a second straight week. In women aged 10 to 20 and 40, and men in their teens, the show placed first across all channels in its time slot, including broadcast networks.
The "Last Run" round paired Baby Zoo against Nain, and Bada against Ingyu. Each director hand-picked dancers from the pool of 400 and built a stage in their own style. Baby Zoo and Ingyu, who had won earlier signature choreography battles, worked from their own routines. Nain and Bada had to build new stages using choreography that had been taken from them.
Baby Zoo and Nain landed on a similar "dance festival" concept but pulled it in different directions. Baby Zoo built her stage around Lee Jung, Gwacheon Honey Watermelon and Seungmin, shaping the dancers' poses and acting down to fine detail. Nain opened her piece from a second-floor set and built it around a hip-hop performance.
The judges said it felt like watching two entertaining films. The "Director's Credit" went to Baby Zoo after a close call. Antoni Lee said if Nain was a 10 out of 10, Baby Zoo was an 11 out of 10.
In the second matchup, Ingyu brought in We Dem Boyz and added a scorpion-themed routine from Grace to power up the performance. Bada went with a runway concept, using formation work, walking, lighting and props, and stepped onto the stage as a performer herself. Her piece also spotlighted the individual styles of dancers including Audrey of Jam Republic.
Fellow contestants called the performances "unfair good," said the directors looked like "geniuses" and called one of the pieces "a real mega." The judges said the two stages made their hearts race and called the directing enviable. After the results, Bada thought back on the stretch of time when her directing had been questioned, sat down and cried.
The show then moved into the "Title Sequence Film Mission," which will decide the lead director for the show's official track, "Royalty (Prod. By !llmind)." Nine of the 10 choreographers will step down into dancer roles and follow the chosen director. The final director also gets judge-level power to decide which contestants land on the "Last Stage" elimination round.
Familiar faces showed up during the casting for the demo videos. Noze, Lia Kim, Lee Jung, Shuri and Vata all joined in to help. Vata's appearance drew extra attention because it aired only hours before news broke on the morning of Nov. 2 that he would marry actress Ji Ye-eun on Dec. 12.
The 10 choreographers then presented their concepts and demo videos. Shimizu and Kasper built their pieces around the film "The Matrix," while Jung Min-jun and Bada chose "The Thieves." The results split sharply.
Shimizu was told the judges had hoped for a cinematic staging but instead got the standard shape of a K-pop video. Kasper leaned on character-driven directing and lighting, but the judges said the artistic vision felt unclear. Bada, on the other hand, was praised for a tasty hook in her choreography. Jung Min-jun was told his work looked like a midterm project from college.
Ingyu and Hash each spotlighted the 10 choreographers one by one, trying to bring out each personality, but the judges said the approach did not match the show's direction. Baby Zoo showed a paired routine built on a five-on-five mixed-gender setup, and Lenan presented a group twerking piece with a "battle royale" concept. Neither landed well with the judges.
Nain drew strong reactions with a demo built on the "Game of Thrones" motif, with fellow choreographers saying they wanted to dance in it. The demo video from Baek Gu-yeong, who has been named a top threat, was not shown in this episode, leaving the race for the final director spot wide open.
