Jisoo of BLACKPINK may have finally found her lane. Her new pre-release single "CLICK" points to a clear direction after years of stylistic searching, and hints at ambitions to grow into a pop star built around a rich lower register, in the mold of Selena Gomez.

Jisoo released "CLICK" and its music video on Sept. 4 at noon KST, ahead of her upcoming full-length album. The track is a dance-pop cut driven by dreamy, punchy synth pads and a bouncy synth bass line.

The song was essentially built by the same team behind Selena Gomez's biggest hits. Of the five writers and producers credited alongside Jisoo, four have previously worked with Gomez. Caroline Ailin, listed at the top of the credits, wrote Gomez's "Dance Again" and "Let Me Get Me." Sir Nolan produced Gomez's 2015 hit "Good For You," the track that helped define her signature restrained pop sound.

Since her solo debut, Jisoo has tried on several styles without landing on one that felt truly her own. Her earlier releases, "FLOWER," "All Eyes On Me" and "AMORTAGE," moved between EDM, synth-pop and pop ballad. Each song had its own polish and direction, but critics noted that a clear, consistent color across her music had yet to emerge.

That started to shift with "EYES CLOSED," her collaboration with ZAYN. All three producers on that track had worked on Selena Gomez songs. Listeners praised Jisoo's vocal performance, pointing to the way her husky lower register fit into the song's calm, dreamy, rhythmic pulse.

Pairing Jisoo with the producers behind Selena Gomez tracks feels like a natural next step for an artist still shaping her identity. Female solo artists who lean on a lower register are rare in both the Korean and global markets. In dance-pop specifically, the list mostly stops at Gomez and Dua Lipa. That makes the credit on "CLICK" all the more telling: lead writer Caroline Ailin also co-wrote Dua Lipa's hits "New Rules" and "Dance the Night."

Choosing "CLICK" as a pre-release rather than the title track suggests real confidence in the album to come. Jisoo not only brought in the Gomez production circle for a pre-release single, she also tapped Joseph Kahn, the director behind Taylor Swift's biggest music videos, to helm the visual. The result carries Kahn's trademark eerie, fairytale-horror tone. In the video, Jisoo appears as a machine-like figure who slowly comes to life as she repairs an abandoned amusement park piece by piece.
