Girls' Generation-HRS Unveils 'Skibidi' Dance Rehearsal on MBC
Girls' Generation members Hyoyeon, Yuri and Sooyoung are teaming up as a new sub-unit called Girls' Generation-HRS, and their first dance rehearsal for the group's new song is about to hit TV. The trio, introduced on the show as a sixth-generation girl group, will share their practice room in an upcoming episode of MBC's variety series "Omniscient Interfering View."
Episode 414 airs Friday at 11:10 p.m. KST. On the show, Girls' Generation-HRS gather to rehearse the choreography for their new track "Skibidi," positioned as a playful challenger to Girls' Generation's well-known sub-unit Girls' Generation-TTS.
The chemistry is loud from the moment they walk in. The three trade jokes at rapid speed, a dynamic long familiar to Girls' Generation fans. HYOYEON fires herself up by declaring that she can even handle a nose-clip mic, while the group teases her that the song she picked does not suit her voice. After 19 years together, the trash talk lands the way it only can between close friends.
The part distribution turns into its own small battle. HYOYEON calls Sooyoung's high notes strong enough to make her "the second HYOYEON," then eyes Yuri's center time, showing clear ambition as both leader and main vocalist. The three also spar over who deserves the main dancer spot in Girls' Generation.
The choreography comes from We Dem Boyz, and the moves are not easy. Sooyoung runs into an unexpected problem when her vocals come out sounding, as her groupmates put it, like a goat, and the other two pile on the jokes without mercy. Even the choreographers cannot hold back their laughter as the rehearsal turns rowdy.
Once the music for "Skibidi" starts, though, the years of training show. The teasing drops off, and the three lock in. HYOYEON picks up the choreography quickly and proves why she has long been considered one of the group's top dancers.
