Mark Lee Heads Into "My Friend" Release Week With Plenty to Prove

Mark Lee is beginning to put the pieces of his independent career in place. With new music arriving, a global fan membership now open and a live listening party planned for his next release, attention is increasingly turning toward a bigger question: what will Mark’s career outside of NCT and SM Entertainment actually look like?

Mark will release his new single "My Friend" on September 10 at 1 p.m. KST. Fifteen minutes before its release, he is scheduled to host a live listening party through Stationhead, allowing fans around the world to tune in and experience the song's arrival alongside him.

The event is one of several recent moves aimed at establishing a direct connection between Mark and the people supporting his upcoming solo activities. Registration has also opened for the Mark Lee Global Official Membership and its accompanying membership kit, creating a formal K-POP fan structure around the artist as he moves further into his independent career.

Taken individually, a listening party or fan membership is hardly unusual for a K-POP artist. However, the timing is notable as Mark is now building many of the structures normally surrounding an established idol career under his own name.

Mark ended his contract with SM Entertainment in April and concluded his activities with NCT, including NCT 127 and NCT DREAM, before establishing his independent label Upper Room. That history means he is hardly beginning his solo career without an audience.

What remains less certain is how much of the enormous fandom surrounding Mark as an NCT member will follow him into a career built entirely around Mark Lee as an individual artist. The impending arrival of new music should begin providing a clearer answer.

"My Friend" will offer an early opportunity to see not only how Mark approaches his music independently, but how listeners respond to that transition. Streaming performance, fan engagement and the reception surrounding his upcoming releases will provide some of the first tangible indications of the scale his independent career can reach.

For now, Mark appears to be laying the groundwork before those numbers arrive. Between an official global membership, direct fan communication and a listening party timed to the moment his new single drops, the infrastructure surrounding his next chapter is beginning to take shape.
