Photo From Alleged Seungri Assault Scene Spreads Online as Singer Rejects Claim
Former BIGBANG member Seungri is facing a special assault complaint tied to a late-night gathering in Seoul. A photo reportedly taken at the scene has spread online, bringing fresh attention to a case the singer's side flatly denied.
The image began circulating on online communities and social media on the 13th. It shows Seungri wearing a black cap and sitting with acquaintances at a restaurant in Seoul's Gangnam district. Bottles of alcohol, side dishes, and a cake are visible on the table.
The Gangnam Police Station in Seoul is investigating a complaint filed on the 26th of last month by a man in his 30s, identified only as A. He alleges that Seungri assaulted him at a restaurant in Gangnam and has requested that the singer be charged with special assault.
Seungri's side has denied the allegation entirely. According to his representatives, Seungri was eating with acquaintances at a Gangnam restaurant around 6 a.m. on the 8th of last month when A, who was intoxicated, approached the table and asked to join them to discuss a business matter. Seungri declined the request and pick up a bottle of alcohol, but his representatives said he never swung it or used it to threaten anyone.
His representatives added that the two men later sat together, shared drinks and exchanged contact information. A then accompanied Seungri out as he left to go home, they said. A few hours after the meal, A sent Seungri a text message saying he would follow up with a business proposal.
Seungri's side said it is now reviewing a countersuit for false accusation based on the restaurant's CCTV (closed-circuit television) footage and statements from witnesses.
Seungri debuted with BIGBANG in 2006 but left the group and stepped away from the entertainment industry in 2019, after the Burning Sun scandal broke the previous year. He was later convicted on nine charges, including arranging prostitution and habitual gambling, and sentenced to one year and six months in prison. He completed his sentence and was released in February of last year.
