XG Embraces the Unknown With "DEPENDS" as XGALX Enters New Era
XG is entering its next chapter with more than just new music. Alongside the announcement of the group's upcoming single "DEPENDS," their label XGALX has unveiled a new logo and slogan, signaling a broader shift in how XG's creative identity is being presented.
Set for release on November 6, "DEPENDS" centers on uncertainty and self-discovery rather than arriving at a clear answer. Lines including "I still don't know myself" and "I'm still searching" portray someone continuing to move forward despite not knowing exactly where that journey will lead.
XGALX itself has described the single as "a new milestone in XG's continued evolution," making the timing of the group's latest release particularly significant.
The label simultaneously introduced a refreshed brand identity, including a new logo and the tagline "Genuine Art Lives. Lives Create Culture." Together, the two announcements appear to place evolution, rather than a fixed identity, at the center of XG's next phase.
That idea has followed XG throughout much of its career. The group has regularly been placed within the wider K-POP conversation, yet its Japanese lineup, global promotional strategy and genre-spanning music have made straightforward categorization increasingly difficult. Rather than resolving those questions, XGALX's latest branding appears to lean further into an identity built around creative freedom.
"DEPENDS" similarly turns uncertainty into part of its message. Instead of presenting not knowing oneself as something that must immediately be overcome, the song focuses on continuing to search and move forward without having every answer.
The track also maintains XG's international creative approach. Grammy-nominated songwriter Tayla Parx and Kiddo A.I. participated in its songwriting, continuing the group's tendency to work within a broader global pop framework.
The shift arrives after another period of international growth for XG. Earlier this year, "THE CORE – 核" entered the Billboard 200, while festival appearances and overseas activities continued to expand the group's presence outside individual markets.
Chisa has also emphasized the group's freedom to evolve, a sentiment that now feels particularly connected to both "DEPENDS" and XGALX's new identity.
For a group that has spent much of its career existing between established categories, XG's latest chapter does not appear interested in providing a more definitive answer to what the group should be. Instead, "DEPENDS" and XGALX's rebrand suggest that continuing to change, search and resist a fixed definition may increasingly be the identity itself.
