KATSEYE Lara's Sister Rhea Raj Joins HYBE America, Bringing Sisters Under One Roof

Indian-American singer Rhea Raj has officially signed with Republic Records and HYBE America, becoming the first artist signed through a joint-venture label deal between the two companies. However, for those who have followed Raj and her family, her arrival at HYBE America may not come entirely out of nowhere.

The partnership, which also includes a strategic alliance with 5 Junction Management, marks a significant step for the 26-year-old singer after years spent building her career independently. Raj is expected to release her first single under the new deal soon.

Raj first gained wider attention when she appeared on "American Idol" at just 15 years old. In the years since, she has developed her own audience, known as the "Rhearazzi," through independent releases including her album "HUNTER," as well as her first headline tour.

Throughout that journey, Raj has increasingly carved out an identity that combines contemporary pop with South Asian musical and visual influences. Rather than separating her Indian-American background from her ambitions in mainstream pop, she has made it a visible part of her work. Raj has also spoken about wanting young South Asian girls to see someone who looks like them represented as a global pop star.

That positioning is one reason the signing stands out beyond being another addition to HYBE America's roster. As HYBE continues expanding beyond its origins in the Korean music industry, its U.S. business has increasingly focused on artists capable of moving across markets rather than fitting exclusively within K-POP.

Raj, however, represents a somewhat different route into that strategy. Rather than being developed from the beginning within a HYBE-led system, she arrives with years of independent releases, touring experience, an established musical identity and a fanbase already built around her.

She also arrives with an unusually close existing connection to HYBE America.

Raj is the older sister of KATSEYE member Lara Raj, who debuted through the HYBE and Geffen Records partnership after competing on "The Debut: Dream Academy." With Lara already under the HYBE America umbrella, Rhea's relationship with the company had previously attracted attention among fans, with some speculating whether she could eventually become involved with HYBE herself.

The connection goes beyond the two simply being sisters working in music. Lara has previously spoken openly about making music with Rhea, highlighting a creative relationship that existed long before both found themselves connected to the same wider company.

Rhea's signing consequently puts the sisters under the HYBE America umbrella for the first time, albeit through different label arrangements. However, their respective careers also offer an interesting contrast in how HYBE America is approaching global pop. Lara entered the industry through KATSEYE, a group assembled and developed through HYBE and Geffen's global artist-development system. Rhea took almost the opposite route, spending years establishing herself independently before entering a major-label partnership.

Yet both have made their Indian heritage highly visible within their careers. Lara has emerged as one of the most prominent South Asian faces within the current global girl-group landscape, while Rhea has consciously incorporated South Asian influences into the pop career she has built on her own.

The deal therefore carries significance on several levels. For Republic Records and HYBE America, it launches their first joint-venture label signing with an artist executives believe has the potential to develop into a global pop act. For Rhea, it provides major-label backing to expand a career and identity she has already spent years establishing independently.

Raj's global presence is also set to expand beyond her new label deal. The singer was recently announced as part of the lineup for Lollapalooza India, giving her an opportunity to perform in the country tied closely to her cultural roots as she enters this next stage of her career.

And for followers of the Raj sisters, it creates a new possibility that did not exist quite so clearly before. With Lara and Rhea now both connected to HYBE America, and a history of already creating music together, attention will inevitably turn toward whether the sisters' private creative partnership could eventually make its way into an official collaboration.
