Korean Outdoor Brands Are Turning Races Into Their Own Events.

Korean outdoor brands are no longer just making the gear for your next hike. This fall, Dynafit, The North Face and Black Yak are filling Korea’s running and hiking calendar with their own events, bringing together thousands of participants while turning races into full brand experiences.

Instead of simply sponsoring athletes, brands are now creating courses, recruiting runners and offering exclusive merchandise. The industry calls this the rise of “race platforms.”

Dynafit kicked things off with the 2026 Dynafit Taebaek Trail on Sept. 5, attracting 4,200 runners, up 40% from last year. Its early-bird package, which included race entry and trail-running gear, also sold out.

The North Face went with Run Seoul Run, which brought around 12,000 runners to Seoul on Sept. 13, followed by the Jangsu Trail Race from Sept. 18 to 20.

Black Yak also host its Black Yak Club Day Challenge on Sept. 19, combining hiking and trail running for more than 2,500 participants. Five winners will even receive fully covered Himalayan trekking trips.

For outdoor brands, races offer more than exposure. They bring together people already interested in running and hiking while creating opportunities to introduce products ranging from shoes and technical clothing to outdoor gear.

The trend is also going global. Kolon Sport will hold its first overseas race in Bhutan from Oct. 28 to 31. The 40-kilometer event includes flights, accommodation and local experiences and costs $3,500 per participant.

From local trail races to high-end outdoor travel, Korean brands are turning the finish line into the start of a much bigger brand experience.
