Kim Ji-won Returns as a Rogue Surgeon in SBS Drama 'Doctor X'

Actor Kim Ji-won steps into the operating room as a genius surgeon who plays by her own rules in the new SBS drama "Doctor X: Mafia in White." The show premieres Oct. 9 at 9:50 p.m. KST.

Released Sept. 30, the third teaser puts Kim's character, Gye Su-jeong, at the center of a hospital power struggle. She is a surgeon with rare skill and no interest in the politics around her.

"Doctor X: Mafia in White" is billed as a medical noir. It follows Gye Su-jeong, known within the hospital as Doctor X, as she pushes back against corruption inside the system. The cast also includes Lee Jung-eun, Son Hyun-joo, and Kim Woo-seok.

The teaser opens in the operating room. Gye Su-jeong takes charge the moment she walks in. A line of dialogue follows: "You performed that surgery without permission." It sets up her collision course with the rules at Guseo University Hospital.

She is not fazed by the atmosphere around her. In one scene she eats instant ramen inside the hospital, calmly meeting the disapproving stares of other doctors. Another shot shows her leading a procedure herself, paired with the tagline "No failure. No compromise."

The teaser also hints at her past. As she moves through the hospital in the present day, a voiceover describes her as "an arrogant hand of God who weighs a life against her own skill and enjoys it." The scene cuts to an earlier moment when she is shown at the site of an explosion.

The clip closes with Gye Su-jeong preparing for surgery. "As long as they're alive, I will save them," she says.
