T.O.P's Longtime Fans Have Had Enough, Agency Apologizes After Fan Site Shuts Down
T.O.P's agency has apologized to fans after a fan site that supported the former BIGBANG member for nearly 20 years announced it was shutting down, accusing the singer and his management of poor communication and taking longtime supporters for granted.
TOPSPOT PICTURES issued a statement on Oct. 10, acknowledging complaints from fans and apologizing for failing to keep them adequately informed about T.O.P's activities.
"We sincerely apologize for the disappointment and frustration caused by the lack of updates and communication with fans who have waited for so long," the agency said.
The company said it would review its communication practices and take fan feedback into account when managing the artist's activities. It also promised to announce specific improvements through its official channels once plans were in place.
The apology came a day after CHOIDOT, a fan site dedicated to T.O.P since August 2006, announced that it would end operations after nearly two decades. In a lengthy statement, the site's operators accused T.O.P and his agency of avoiding responsibility and treating fans' efforts as something they could take for granted.
Much of the criticism centered on the agency's handling of fan communication. CHOIDOT claimed that despite accepting fan support, the company had not established basic channels for inquiries, leaving the site's operators to respond to questions from overseas fans and act as an unofficial link between supporters and management.
The operators said fans had also taken it upon themselves to promote T.O.P's solo album, translate content and organize events, while the agency provided little assistance. They shared what they described as messages and emails exchanged with company representatives to support their claims.
Their frustration extended to T.O.P himself. According to the statement, fans had hoped to see him perform and engage more directly with supporters following his solo comeback, but five months after the album's release, those expectations had largely gone unmet.
The fan site also addressed the recent cancellation of an exhibition it had organized. Its operators said they had invested approximately $6,400 in preparations but were forced to cancel after low reservations and subsequent withdrawals made the event difficult to sustain.
They pushed back against suggestions that the cancellation, or the decision to close the site, had anything to do with T.O.P's recently confirmed relationship with actress Nana.
According to CHOIDOT, many fans had known about the relationship before it became public but chose not to discuss it out of respect for his privacy. The operators argued that portraying their disappointment as anger over his dating life overlooked the problems they had been raising for months.
In one of the statement's strongest passages, the operators directly criticized T.O.P's attitude toward his supporters.
"An album is not a gift or an honor bestowed upon fans," they wrote, urging him to stop assuming that fans would always respond the way he wanted.
They also said fans' love and support should not be welcomed when convenient and ignored when uncomfortable. While they did not want to dismiss the sincerity of the past 20 years, they said they could no longer continue supporting him at the expense of their own feelings.
TOPSPOT PICTURES has since acknowledged shortcomings in its communication with fans, though it has not addressed the allegations individually or announced concrete changes. The agency's response also did not indicate whether T.O.P himself would comment on the matter.
T.O.P debuted with BIGBANG in 2006 and confirmed his departure from the group in 2023. Earlier this month, he confirmed his relationship with Nana, who appeared in a music video for his solo album.
