Girls' Generation's Choi Soo-young Cast in New KBS Weekend Drama
Veteran actor Lee Jung-eun and Choi Soo-young are teaming up as mother and daughter in a new KBS weekend drama. The two will star in a drama about a woman who decides to pursue college later in life.
The production team announced the main cast on Monday, confirming Lee Jung-eun, Choi Soo-young, Lee Sung-jae, Jeon Sung-woo, and Kang Seung-yoon. The upcoming drama follows Yoon Ok-hee, played by Lee Jung-eun, who takes on the challenge of going to college at a late age and rediscovers the meaning of family through the new relationships she forms along the way.
Lee Jung-eun plays Yoon Ok-hee, a woman embarking on a new chapter in her life. Yoon looks after much of the neighborhood while also running an instant tteokbokki shop, the kind of small spicy rice cake joint that doubles as a community hangout in Korean towns. "It has been a while since I've greeted viewers through a KBS weekend drama, so I will work hard to show a good side of myself," Lee Jung-eun said.
Choi Soo-young, a member of veteran girl group Girls' Generation, plays Yoon's daughter Kang Eun-ho, a radio producer. Kang puts practical judgment ahead of emotion and says what she means, but she is also the person who stands by her mother's side more than anyone else as she takes on this new challenge. "Just being able to make a project with Lee Jung-eun, who I have long been a fan of, felt like an exciting and grateful opportunity," Choi Soo-young said about joining the cast.
Kang Seung-yoon, best known as the leader of boy group WINNER, plays Kang Jun, the eldest son of Yoon Ok-hee and Kang Ji-cheol. He has failed at several businesses but refuses to give up, and he is now trying to turn things around by launching a "boxing diet program" at his father's gym. "I've been waiting for a chance to act in a story that feels this human," Kang Seung-yoon said.
The new drama will follow "Love on the Menu" in the KBS2 weekend drama slot. It is set to air in the first half of 2027.
