CORTIS' James Is the Director, Editor and Star of His Birthday Video
CORTIS member James has celebrated his birthday with a self-directed music video, marking the beginning of a creative project that will see all five members release original content on their birthdays.
The video, titled "[BDAY Project] Paris Texas - Everybody's Safe Until..." was released on CORTIS' official YouTube channel at midnight on October 14.
Set to a song by American hip-hop duo Paris Texas, the cover music video was developed by James, who selected the track and took charge of the choreography, direction, editing and color grading.
Built around the idea that personal growth requires confronting one's past self, the video shows James facing off against another version of himself in a narrow alleyway.
The two engage in a tense confrontation using vintage camcorders as weapons, with action-inspired choreography created by James. The sequence combines physical movement, close camera work and dramatic expressions to create a short-film atmosphere.
The video ends with an October 14 title card and a playful "It's my birthday" voiceover, revealing the birthday connection behind the project.
James developed the concept and choreography while preparing for CORTIS' first tour, PUT YOUR PHONE DOWN, earlier this summer.
After outlining the overall direction, he worked with the filming team on camera angles, visual effects and movement through the location. He also handled post-production, receiving the credit "Directed and edited by JAMES."
The release launches CORTIS' BDAY Project, which will feature individual creative works from each member.
Juhoon is next on January 3, followed by Seonghyeon on January 13, Keonho on February 14 and Martin on March 20. Each member is expected to present a project based on their own ideas.
Meanwhile, CORTIS' second mini album "GREENGREEN," which was released in May, surpassed 500 million cumulative streams on Spotify as of October 12, according to the group's latest update.
The album has also recorded more than 4.35 million copies sold on Circle Chart, based on the latest weekly figures covering September 27 through October 3.
CORTIS is scheduled to appear at the 2026 Melon Music Awards in Seoul on November 14 and 15, followed by the 2026 MAMA Awards in Osaka on November 20 and 21.
