A K-POP festival promoted as an experience built for fans has ended with hello82 facing allegations of accessibility failures, mistreatment of disabled attendees and poor event management, raising questions about whether organizers delivered the inclusive experience they promised.

Held October 17 and 18 at Los Angeles State Historic Park, 82WORLD: LA featured ATEEZ, P1Harmony, BE, xikers, AMPERS&ONE, 8TURN, GIRLSET and cosmosy. However, the performances have been overshadowed by complaints about inadequate accommodations, hostile staff interactions and reports that an attendee was refunded and removed after raising accessibility concerns.

The controversy has become particularly significant for a company whose business model depends on close relationships with K-POP fandoms, with some fans now questioning whether hello82 prioritized the communities that helped establish its reputation.

The most serious criticism centers on the treatment of disabled festivalgoers.

Multiple accounts circulating on X, Instagram and Threads described difficulties accessing designated ADA viewing areas. One attendee shared an image of an accessible section positioned toward the back of the audience without an elevated platform, while others alleged that wheelchair users were denied access to certain areas and forced to navigate gravel after paved pathways were closed.

Several fans compared the arrangements unfavorably with accessibility facilities at other festivals, arguing that the viewing areas offered limited visibility and failed to accommodate attendees with mobility impairments.

Although elevated platforms are not universally required under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), accessible viewing areas must meet applicable standards for access and visibility. The question is whether disabled attendees were provided a meaningful opportunity to enjoy the performances rather than simply being assigned a designated section.

These complaints directly challenged hello82's published assurances which stated that the event would comply with ADA standards and provide accessibility features throughout the grounds. Attendees requiring accommodations were instructed to contact organizers at least seven days in advance, with an on-site ADA tent available for assistance.

Its ticketing page also described Los Angeles State Historic Park as ADA-compliant. However, a venue's existing infrastructure does not automatically guarantee accessibility once temporary stages, fencing, barricades and crowd-control arrangements are installed.

The reported problems therefore raise questions about how accessibility was incorporated into the festival's planning and whether those arrangements remained functional throughout the weekend.

The controversy escalated when social media accounts alleged that an attendee advocating for disabled fans was given a refund and subsequently removed from the festival.

A Threads user further accused a senior hello82 executive of dismissing accessibility complaints, laughing at affected attendees and telling them they could pursue legal action if dissatisfied. The account alleged that the executive was involved in the attendee's removal.

Nevertheless, the incident has intensified demands for an explanation, particularly because hello82's published code of conduct prohibits discrimination based on disability and retaliation against attendees reporting concerns in good faith.

If an attendee was removed following an accessibility complaint, the circumstances and justification for that decision would be important to establish, including whether the underlying concerns were investigated.

The backlash has been particularly strong among ATINY, ATEEZ's fandom, given the group's longstanding relationship with hello82 through promotional campaigns, music distribution and fan engagement initiatives.

For some fans, that history has made the reported treatment of disabled ATINY particularly upsetting.

Posts circulating after the festival accused hello82 of betraying the community that helped support its growth, with some calling for refunds, boycotts and an end to future festival partnerships. These reactions do not represent every ATINY, but they illustrate how the controversy has extended beyond dissatisfaction with one event.

K-POP fandoms frequently contribute to companies' commercial success through merchandise purchases, promotional activities and repeat attendance at events. That investment can create expectations of mutual respect and accountability.

When fans believe their concerns have been dismissed, the resulting loss of trust can affect the company's relationship with the wider community.

Accessibility was not the only source of frustration. Attendees reported delayed entry on October 17, with the advertised 1 p.m. opening reportedly pushed back to approximately 1:30 p.m.

These delays were particularly frustrating because 82WORLD: LA was promoted as more than a traditional concert. Its programming included interactive games and fan experiences that required attendees to be at specific locations at designated times. Delayed admission therefore risked reducing access to activities that formed part of the festival's appeal.

Crowd management also drew criticism, with reports of attendees rushing toward the grounds when entry began, aggressive competition for barricade positions and difficulties navigating congested areas.

Although individual crowd behavior cannot automatically be attributed to organizers, managing admission, maintaining safe pathways and responding to disruptive conduct are central responsibilities at large public events.

Heat-related concerns further added to the complaints with several accounts claiming that festivalgoers fainted during the weekend, while others described difficulties accessing water, food and essential facilities during the lengthy outdoor event.

Experiences varied. Some attendees praised medical personnel for responding quickly when people became unwell, while others reported difficulties obtaining assistance or navigating the grounds.

Moreover, programming decisions also came under scrutiny with some fans criticizing the relatively short performance slots allocated to supporting acts, particularly certain girl groups, with attendee accounts describing sets lasting approximately 15 to 20 minutes.

Although different performance lengths are common at festivals, some ticket holders questioned whether the balance of stage time and interactive activities justified the heavy cost.

Despite the complaints, the performers themselves received substantial praise.

ATEEZ's October 18 appearance generated enthusiastic reactions. Meanwhile, P1Harmony's October 17 headlining set also drew positive responses, alongside appearances and fan interactions involving the other participating artists.

Some attendees described enjoying the festival overall, while others expressed discomfort celebrating the performances after learning about the reported treatment of disabled fans.

That contrast has become one of the defining aspects of 82WORLD: LA's aftermath.

Fans could appreciate the artists' efforts while criticizing the organizers. A positive concert experience does not invalidate another attendee's account of exclusion, just as criticism of festival management should not be directed at performers who were not responsible for operational decisions.

Ultimately, the central issue facing hello82 is not whether 82WORLD: LA assembled a successful lineup, but whether it provided an equitable experience for everyone who attended.

The accessibility allegations are particularly consequential because they concern equal participation rather than individual preferences about scheduling, ticket prices or performance lengths.

Under the ADA, covered event operators have obligations concerning accessibility and nondiscrimination. Whether the reported conditions constituted legal violations would require further evidence and an assessment of the specific arrangements. However, the alleged removal of an attendee who raised accessibility concerns warrants clarification, especially given hello82's explicit prohibition against retaliation.

Organizers face questions about the adequacy of accessible viewing areas, complaint-handling procedures and whether affected attendees will receive any remedy. They must also address whether complaints were raised during the festival, what steps were taken in response and how similar problems would be prevented at future events.

For a company built around connecting artists with their fans, the response could have consequences extending well beyond its inaugural festival.

82WORLD: LA brought major K-POP performers and their audiences together, but its aftermath has exposed a more fundamental question about who was able to participate equally. A festival can indeed call itself built for fans, but that promise means little if some fans are left fighting to be included.
