SEVENTEEN's Jeonghan and Joshua Reveal Creative Process Behind "DREAMSCAPE"
SEVENTEEN's Jeonghan and Joshua are stepping into a new chapter as a duo, releasing their first mini album "DREAMSCAPE" on October 19 with a sound and concept designed to distinguish them from the group's previous units.
Ahead of the release, the pair discussed their creative involvement, vocal experimentation and the years of friendship that shaped the seven-track project.
Jeonghan said one of their biggest priorities was finding an identity that felt distinctly their own.
"Since SEVENTEEN has shown so many different units over the years, I think we focused most on showing something that would set Jeonghan and Joshua apart," he explained in an interview shared by Pledis Entertainment.
He added that the two spent considerable time discussing possible concepts and genres with each other and the production team. Joshua echoed that sentiment, revealing that both members actively participated in the creative process, although not every song they worked on made the final tracklist.
The album's title track, "12 o'clock," blends dance rock with modern interpretations of 1970s and 1980s disco and funk, featuring a more relaxed and mature vocal approach.
The song follows the duo as they pursue the objects of their dreams across the boundary between noon and midnight.
Both members also experimented with their singing styles while recording the album. Jeonghan said he tried using a fuller vocal tone than usual, while Joshua focused on developing a more mature sound.
For Jeonghan, the release also marks his first album promotions since returning from his service.
"I'm a little nervous since these are my first album activities after returning, but more than anything, I want to meet our fans as soon as possible," he said.
Beyond the music, "DREAMSCAPE" explores the relationship between dreams experienced during sleep and ambitions pursued in reality.
Jeonghan explained that the seven tracks were arranged to feel like a single story, encouraging listeners to interpret the songs' meanings and discover metaphors throughout the album.
The duo's longstanding friendship also influenced the project as Joshua said their years of working together helped bring a natural side of their relationship into the music.

Meanwhile Jeonghan described how they have supported each other since joining the company as trainees around the same time.
The latest music video teaser for "12 o'clock," released October 18, adds to the album's surreal imagery with a train resembling snake scales and an expansive meadow.
"DREAMSCAPE" and the title track "12 o'clock" will be released on October 19 at 6 p.m. KST.
