EJAE of 'KPop Demon Hunters' Quietly Marries Sam Kim in Seoul
EJAE, the songwriter and singer known for Netflix's "KPop Demon Hunters," has quietly tied the know with producer and songwriter Sam Kim. Several photos from the wedding, taken by Vogue, were posted to EJAE's Instagram on Oct. 20.
The photos show the couple posing and smiling during the ceremony. EJAE appeared in both a hanbok, a traditional Korean outfit, and a wedding dress.
According to Vogue, the couple had planned to hold the wedding in California in November. Instead, they married on Oct. 17 at Stage28 in Seoul's Godeok-dong area, in Gangdong district.
The venue has deep family ties. Stage28 sits on the site of the former home of EJAE's maternal grandfather, veteran actor Shin Young-kyun, 99. It is also home to the Shin Young-kyun Arts and Culture Foundation is based. EJAE's older brother also held his own wedding there.
The two first met in 2017 as colleagues at a songwriting session. They later started dating and got engaged in late 2023.
EJAE spent years as a trainee at SM Entertainment. She went on to compose songs for other artists, including Red Velvet's "Psycho" and aespa's "Drama" and "Armageddon."
Her biggest breakthrough came with "KPop Demon Hunters." She is the lead vocalist of HUNTR/X, the fictional girl group featured in the Netflix film, and she performed on and contributed to its soundtrack.
Sam Kim works as a producer, songwriter and computer programmer.
A wedding originally planned for California ended up in Seoul instead, on land that has been part of EJAE's family history for decades.
