ILLIT Sells Over 380,000 Albums on Day One as New Single Climbs Charts
K-pop group ILLIT has posted its best first-day album sales yet. The group's fifth mini album, "BREAK EVEN," sold 382,991 copies on its release day, according to figures released by Hanteo Chart, the Korean album sales tracker, on Oct. 27.
The album came out a day earlier and went straight to No. 1 on Hanteo's daily album chart. That total is about 40% higher than the first-day sales of the group's fourth mini album, which sold 276,145 copies. It is the biggest first day for any ILLIT album so far.
The title track, "You're Under Arrest," also climbed rapidly on Korean streaming charts. It entered the Top 100 on Melon, a Korean music streaming platform, at No. 72 at 7 p.m. KST on Oct. 26. By 11 p.m. KST, it had reached No. 19.
That is a jump of 53 spots in four hours. The song also ranked high on the real-time charts of Bugs and Genie, two other Korean music services.
The new release also entered music charts in Japan. "You're Under Arrest" landed on the LINE MUSIC real-time chart alongside "It's Me," the group's previous release. On the real-time rising chart of the Japanese music platform AWA, every track on the new mini album made the list.
The music video passed 4 million YouTube views within 12 hours of its release. As of 9 a.m. KST on Oct. 27, it had also entered YouTube's "Trending Music" charts in 19 countries and regions, including the U.S. and the U.K.
In the video, the ILLIT members play agents dressed in black. They chase a person who won them over and then vanished, and hidden clues appear throughout the video. Actor Song Kang makes a surprise appearance that adds a twist to the story.
ILLIT will also release a performance video for "You're Under Arrest" on the afternoon of Oct. 27 through "STUDIO CHOOM," a dance content series from Mnet's digital studio M2.
