'Merry Berry Love' Holds No. 2 on Disney+ Worldwide TV Chart
Ji Chang-wook's island romance is about to get complicated. New stills from the romantic comedy "Merry Berry Love" teases the arrival of an unexpected visitor ahead of the show's fifth episode.
"Merry Berry Love" is a global project from CJ ENM, co-produced with Japan's Nippon TV. It is directed by Kim Soo-jung and Noh Young-seop and written by Lee Jae-yoon. New episodes are realesed every Wednesday night on Disney+ and air on Nippon TV, a Japanese broadcast network.
The series follows Yu-bin, a Korean spatial planner whose career has hit rock bottom, and Karin, a Japanese farmer. Their cross-border romance unfolds on a beautiful island.
In the fourth episode, Lee Yu-bin (played by Ji) and Karin Shirahama (Mio Imada) confessed their feelings for each other and shared a kiss. However, Yu-bin only came to Charo Island to sell his field. That leaves a big question open. Will he go back to Korea, or stay with Karin?
The show has also been gaining traction with international audiences. According to FlixPatrol, a site that tracks rankings across global streaming services, "Merry Berry Love" ranked No. 1 among non-English shows and No. 2 overall on the Disney+ worldwide TV show chart as of Oct. 30. The series achieved these rankings in its fourth week, matching the positions it reached during its premiere week.
The fourth episode also scored a 9.9 rating on IMDb, which the source describes as the world's largest ratings site. That is an unusually high mark, and it has won over K-rom-com fans in Korea and abroad.
The new stills show Yu-bin no longer hiding how he feels after their first kiss. In one still, he wears an apron and handles things around the house for Karin. He looks like a man who has fallen hard. In another, he gazes at a sleeping Karin with a soft, sweet look.
Then the mood flips. Han Si-a (Lee Hyo-in) shows up on Charo Island. She is Yu-bin's junior from college and the granddaughter tied to a world-famous construction company.
The three characters face each other in the same frame, and the tension is easy to read. Yu-bin eyes Si-a with clear suspicion.
Why Si-a came to the island, and what her arrival means for Yu-bin and Karin, are questions the fifth episode is set to explore. For a series built by Korean and Japanese partners, the steady chart run shows how far a classic rom-com setup can travel.
