MONSTA X's Shownu Sidelined by Herniated Disc, Future Activities Uncertain
K-POP group MONSTA X member Shownu will miss several upcoming events after being diagnosed with a herniated disc in his lower back. He will not attend a fan event in Beijing or the 2026 Korea Grand Music Awards (KGMA).
The group's agency, Starship Entertainment, announced the news in an official statement on Nov. 6.
"Shownu recently visited a hospital due to back pain and underwent a thorough examination," the agency said. "The results showed that he has a herniated disc."
The agency said it had decided to prioritize Shownu's health and recovery. "As a result, he will be unable to attend the scheduled events," it added.
Shownu will miss MONSTA X's fan event in Beijing celebrating the release of the group's EP "The Phase," as well as the 2026 Korea Grand Music Awards.
Hyungwon and some of the other members will still attend the awards ceremony, but the group will not give a separate stage performance.
Shownu had also been scheduled to take part in a video call fan signing and a one-on-one photo session as part of the Beijing event. Starship Entertainment said further details about those activities would be announced separately.
His future activities may also be affected. The agency said it would "carefully decide whether he will attend future events based on his recovery progress and health condition." It added that any changes would be announced.
"We sincerely apologize for causing concern among fans with this sudden news," Starship Entertainment said. "We will do our best to help the artist recover through sufficient rest and treatment."
