Jiwon (지원)

One of the original architects of the first-generation K-pop idol wave, Eun Ji-won has spent nearly three decades moving between the stage, the recording booth, and the television screen. As the founding leader and main rapper of Sechs Kies, he helped define the sound and attitude of late-1990s Korean pop before pivoting toward a solo career rooted in hip-hop — a trajectory that set him apart from many of his contemporaries.

Debut and formation of Sechs Kies

Sechs Kies debuted in 1997 under DSP Media, entering a competitive landscape that included H.O.T. and g.o.d. and helped establish the idol group template that South Korean pop would refine for decades to come. Eun Ji-won served as the group's leader from the outset, anchoring its rap performances while also contributing as a lead vocalist. The group's run during the late 1990s placed them among the defining acts of that era.

Solo career and musical direction

Following Sechs Kies' initial disbandment, Eun Ji-won redirected his focus toward solo work and leaned decisively into hip-hop, a shift that distinguished his post-group output from the polished pop of his idol years. His solo discography spans several releases across different labels — DSP Media, YG Entertainment, and GYM Entertainment — reflecting both his career longevity and the changing commercial landscape of Korean music.

His solo albums include *The 2nd Round* (2005) and *Platonic* (2009), with *G1* arriving in 2019 and marking a continued commitment to recorded output well into his third decade in the industry. Beyond performing, he has worked as a lyricist, composer, and producer, credits that underscore a creative investment in the craft rather than performance alone.

Activities beyond music

Eun Ji-won has maintained a visible presence on South Korean television, including variety programming. His appearances on the reality series *Mr. House Husband* have kept him in the public conversation, with episodes touching on his personal life following remarriage. He has also worked as a television actor, adding another strand to a career that has consistently resisted a single lane.
