fromis_9's Jiwon Opens Up About Years Without Income: "I Was Penniless for So Long"

K-POP group fromis_9 member Park Jiwon has opened up about the financial struggles she faced during the early years of her career, revealing that she only recently began receiving income as an idol.

Jiwon made the remarks in a recent episode of the YouTube variety series "Workdol," where she worked as a one-day bank employee. During a conversation with a bank worker about salaries, she surprised viewers by candidly sharing her own experience.

"Until a year or two ago, I was completely penniless," she said. "For eight years, I had almost no income. I only started receiving settlements not long ago, and now I'm finally saving money steadily."

Her comments quickly drew attention online, shedding light on the reality many idols face behind the glamour of the entertainment industry. In K-POP, artists often do not receive profits immediately after debut, as agencies first deduct training expenses, production costs and other investments before distributing earnings. Jiwon's remarks suggest that she and her group spent years promoting without receiving meaningful financial settlements.

fromis_9 was formed through the 2017 survival program "Idol School" and officially debuted in January 2018. The group built a loyal fanbase with songs such as "Love Bomb," "DM" and "Stay This Way," becoming known for its bright image and strong vocal performances.

After undergoing major changes in recent years, fromis_9 reorganized as a five-member group consisting of Ha-young, Jiwon, Chae-young, Na-gyung and Ji-heon under the new agency ASND Entertainment. The group has continued its activities following a successful world tour and encore concerts, while members have also expanded into individual projects, including variety show appearances and solo schedules.
