When "Discord" connected with listeners in 2024, it did so not through the usual machinery of a polished idol rollout but through the kind of direct, guitar-forward energy more often associated with rock festival stages than with K-pop music show competition. QWER — four members who play their own instruments, draw from Japanese rock and anime-song aesthetics, and operate under the relatively small Tamago Production label — had arrived at an unusually distinct identity for a K-pop girl group, and "Discord" became the benchmark their subsequent work would be measured against.
Debut and formation
QWER traces its origins to a YouTube project titled "My Favorite Idols," conceived by creator Kim Gye-ran. The group debuted on October 18, 2023, under Tamago Production — a formation path that sits outside the conventional trainee pipeline that produces most K-pop acts. That outsider route appears to have informed the group's sound and self-presentation from the start: the members perform as a live band, each taking an instrument alongside vocal duties, which remains a relative rarity in mainstream K-pop girl-group spaces.
Music and discography
The sonic template QWER works within blends K-pop structure with Japanese rock textures and the melodic intensity of anime-linked music — genres whose fanbases overlap considerably online and that gave the group a ready international entry point. "Discord" became the group's defining track and, by the members' own framing at subsequent press events, the commercial bar they hoped to clear again.
Their fourth mini-album, "CEREMONY", arrived on April 27, 2026, after roughly ten months away — the group's longest gap between releases. Speaking at the album's showcase, the members described "CEREMONY" as a statement of artistic maturity, noting active participation in its creation, and framed its release as the opening of a distinct second chapter in their career. They named Melon's number-one chart position as a concrete goal, and pledged fan-engagement events — including a surprise fan visit and an encore group dance — should they achieve a first-place win on a music show.
Members
QWER consists of four current members:
- Chodan — leader, drummer, sub-vocalist
- Siyeon — main vocalist, guitarist
- Magenta — bassist
- Hina — guitarist, keyboardist, maknae
A fifth member, Lee Siyeon, is listed within the group's roster.
Activities
Beyond recorded output, QWER has pursued a live-performance footprint that extends well past the domestic circuit. At the "CEREMONY" showcase, the members cited their world tour as formative — crediting it with sharpening both their stagecraft and their sense of identity as artists. Looking further ahead, the group named Japan's Summer Sonic festival as an aspirational target, pointing to what they described as a powerful live sound as the quality that had already earned them festival invitations.
In July 2026, QWER is scheduled to perform at ACON 2026 — the pre-show festa for the Asia Artist Awards — at NTSU Arena in Taipei, sharing the bill with Xdinary Heroes.
Off-stage, the group drew attention in early 2026 when it donated 30 million won to Asan Medical Center for child patients. The funds came from a flea market event organized with their fanbase, BAWIGE, after the group was contacted by a young fan receiving treatment — a gesture that received notable coverage for its scale and the direct community involvement behind it.
