TREASURE landed at the centre of one of K-pop's more anticipated launches when the twelve-member YG Entertainment group released "The First Step: Chapter One" in August 2020 — the opening move of a serialised debut rollout that would unfold across three further chapters before the year was out. Assembled from the trainee competition format that YG had used to build previous acts, the group arrived with a fanbase, a structured release plan, and a clear commercial mandate from one of the industry's most established labels.

Debut and early releases

The group debuted officially on 7 August 2020, and YG deployed an unusually methodical release strategy across their first months: *The First Step: Chapter One*, *Chapter Two*, and *Chapter Three* rolled out in quick succession, each introducing different musical facets and adding to a growing catalogue before the year ended. The singles "Boy" and "Mmm" emerged from that period as early representative works, helping establish the group's range across energetic dance-pop and hip-hop-inflected material. Those releases were later consolidated on the compilation album *The First Step: Treasure Effect*. The group's fandom, known as Treasure Maker, took shape around this concentrated early activity.

Music and discography

TREASURE's output through 2021 and 2022 continued at a pace uncommon even by K-pop standards. The singles "My Treasure" and "Beautiful" arrived in 2021, broadening the group's tonal palette.
