Wanna One (워너원)
ActiveN/A (when he was a member of Wanna One he was under Cube Entertainment)
Formed through the second season of Mnet's *Produce 101* survival competition and active for roughly seventeen months between August 2017 and January 2019, Wanna One became one of the defining project groups of the late 2010s K-pop era. Their debut EP *1X1=1 (To Be One)* and its lead single "Energetic" announced an outfit built for commercial impact, and the group's run — however brief by design — produced a body of work and a fan loyalty that proved durable well beyond their contracted end date.
Debut and formation
Wanna One officially debuted on August 7, 2017, with eleven members drawn from across multiple agencies, each of whom returned to their original companies — or pursued independent careers — when the group concluded activities on January 27, 2019. The unusual structure, in which member contracts ran concurrently with home-agency obligations, reflected the temporary nature built into the *Produce 101* format: the group existed as a fixed-term project rather than a conventional long-term act. That constraint did not dampen the scale of the launch. The debut showcase at Gocheok Sky Dome, footage from which circulated years later on the reunion reality series *Wanna One Go: Back to Base*, underlined the level of anticipation the group carried into its first performances.
Music and discography
The group's output across seventeen months covered four EPs and one full-length album, each title following the group's running numeric concept. The debut EP *1X1=1 (To Be One)*, released in 2017, introduced the uptempo "Energetic" as its lead track alongside "Burn It Up." The follow-up EP *1-1=0 (Nothing Without You)*, also from 2017, shifted toward a warmer, more emotionally direct register with "Beautiful," a track that remained closely associated with the group through subsequent years. The 2018 EP *0+1=1 (I Promise You)* yielded "I Promise You (I.P.U.)," and the companion EP *1÷x=1 (Undivided)* included "Boomerang." The group's sole full-length studio album, *1¹¹=1 (Power of Destiny)*, arrived in late 2018 with "Light" as its representative single — the last major release before the group's scheduled conclusion. In 2022, "Beautiful (Part.3)" appeared as a standalone single, extending the group's best-known track into a third iteration and marking one of the few formal releases after the group's disbandment.

Wanna One comprised eleven members across vocal, dance, and rap roles.

The breadth of the line-up — three main vocalists, two main dancers, and a dedicated center in Daniel — reflected the competitive depth that the *Produce 101* selection process was designed to surface.
Activities beyond the active period
The group's official run ended in January 2019, but the membership remained a recurring presence in Korean entertainment individually and, periodically, collectively. A special reunion stage at the 2021 MAMA ceremony on December 11 of that year drew significant attention, confirming that the group's fanbase, known as Wannable, remained organized and engaged more than two years after disbandment.
In 2026, roughly seven years after the group's conclusion, Wanna One undertook a more sustained return through the Mnet Plus original reality series *Wanna One Go: Back to Base*. The six-episode program followed the members through missions including a group photoshoot — their first in approximately nine years — and the creation of a new fan song intended as a direct gift to Wannable. Unreleased footage from the original 2017 activity period, surfaced within the series, accumulated over 100 million cumulative views, a figure that illustrated the continued appetite for the group's archive material. Lai Kuanlin, who had stepped away from the entertainment industry after the group's disbandment, appeared in the series, his participation noted as a notable development given his absence from public activity. Kang Daniel was reported to be absent from the reunion.
The series also produced ancillary coverage: a group cover shoot for *Elle D Edition* in May 2026 marked the first such feature in nine years, and polling data from fan platforms placed Ha Sungwoon and Park Jihoon at the top of multiple popularity metrics during the reunion period, attributed in press coverage to renewed public interest generated by the project.
Legacy
Wanna One's standing in K-pop is substantially a product of the tension between the scale of their popularity during the active period and the brevity of that window. Several members built sustained solo careers in music and acting in the years following disbandment — Park Jihoon's film *The Man Who Lived with the King* drew 16.8 million admissions, earning him recognition as a mainstream box-office draw, while Ha Sungwoon and Ong Seong-wu continued as active solo artists. The group's numeric titling system, its *Produce 101* origins, and the visible loyalty of the Wannable fandom across nearly a decade have made Wanna One a frequently cited reference point in discussions of the project-group format and its long-term effects on both members and audiences.
