When BOYNEXTDOOR's debut single album Who! arrived in May 2023, it introduced a six-member group whose identity was built around a deliberate kind of ordinariness — the "boys next door," approachable and unguarded, filtering the textures of everyday youth through a K-pop and hip-hop lens. Launched under the creative supervision of Zico, one of South Korea's most prominent producer-artists, the group moved quickly from a promising debut into a sustained release cycle that carried them through consecutive album projects and, by mid-2026, onto the top of Japan's Oricon charts.

Debut and formation

BOYNEXTDOOR debuted on May 30, 2023, with the single album *Who!*, establishing from the outset a thematic framework centered on relatable emotional experiences — the uncertainties and small turbulences of youth, relationships, and self-discovery. The group's name encodes that same philosophy: not an aspirational distance from the audience, but a proximity to it. Their association with Zico, who shaped their creative development through training evaluations and production collaboration, gave the group a visible creative lineage within the industry. Behind-the-scenes material released ahead of their 2026 full-length album later offered a glimpse of that training process, including monthly evaluation footage and the members' hands-on work with Zico in the studio.

Music and discography

The group moved through a concentrated release schedule in their first two years. *Why..* arrived later in 2023, followed by *How?* and *19.99* in 2024, building an album catalog that traced an evolving emotional arc across youth-oriented themes. The 2025 releases — the album *No Genre* and the extended play *The Action* — indicated a willingness to push against tighter stylistic boundaries, with the title *No Genre* functioning as something of a statement of intent.

Their first full-length album, *HOME*, released in June 2026, marked a formal escalation. All six members participated in the production of every track on the record, with writing and composition credits listed under the group name — a degree of collective creative involvement that the group framed as a deliberate effort to embed their authentic shared story into the project. The album addressed themes consistent with their catalog: love, separation, and the passage of youth, handled with the directness their name implies.

Member Sungho extended the group's individual creative footprint in early 2026 through a collaboration with Japanese animation director Makoto Shinkai, releasing a remake single of *5 Centimeters Per Second* — a project that connected the group's orbit to one of animation's most recognizable names internationally.

Achievements

*HOME* debuted at number one on Japan's Oricon Daily Album Ranking on its first day of local release, recording 136,278 sales. The result was part of a consistent pattern on that chart: the group's accumulated releases, including mini-albums and Japanese singles, had all entered the upper rankings of the Oricon, establishing reliable commercial performance in the Japanese market. The Oricon chart position for *HOME* represented the group's most prominent chart achievement on record as of mid-2026.

Members

BOYNEXTDOOR comprises six members: Jaehyun, Leehan, Riwoo, Sungho, Taesan, and Woonhak. The group's fandom carries the name ONEDOOR. In June 2026, Jaehyun sustained a partial ligament sprain in his ankle ahead of the *HOME* comeback, with the group's agency confirming flexible management of his performance schedule in response.

Activities

Beyond recordings, the group undertook the Knock On Vol.1 Tour, their first concert tour. In early 2026 they appeared in Vivien's MZ Office campaign, positioning them within a broader cultural conversation around the so-called MZ generation of younger South Korean consumers. The group also participated in a campaign supporting children in need of protection, and engaged in promotional activity around Korean food culture through content centered on *buldak*, the spicy noodle dish with growing international recognition.
