BTS Wins Artist of the Year at 2026 AMAs, Sweeps Three Categories
BTS, KATSEYE, and Netflix's hit animated feature KPop Demon Hunters collectively transformed the 2026 American Music Awards (AMAs) into an unprecedented showcase for K-pop and Korean-rooted music. BTS captured three major awards—including the night's ultimate honor—while global girl group KATSEYE secured three trophies, and the KPop Demon Hunters phenomenon walked away with a staggering four-vessel sweep.
The 2026 American Music Awards were broadcast live on May 26 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
BTS was crowned Artist of the Year, converting all three of its nominations into definitive victories. The fierce battle for Artist of the Year featured a heavyweight field including Bad Bunny, Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift, and Lady Gaga.
"ARMY, we made it again," leader RM stated on stage, addressing the group's global fandom. "Following our transition back from mandatory military service, it is a profound honor to accept such a meaningful distinction. They say this specific honor is determined entirely by fan votes. All of this validation goes directly back to ARMY, who have fiercely supported us for 13 years."
The victory marks BTS's second historic win in the premier category, having first captured Artist of the Year in 2021 as the foundational Korean act to achieve the milestone.
BTS also secured Song of the Summer for "SWIM," the infectious lead single from their acclaimed fifth studio album, Arirang. Their third trophy of the evening arrived in the Best Male K-Pop Artist category. Accepting the latter honor, RM and V kept their remarks brief,告诉 the roaring crowd they would simply "keep moving forward."
KATSEYE, the global girl group operating under the HYBE umbrella—the same entertainment conglomerate anchoring BTS—clinched three awards of their own, highlighted by the coveted New Artist of the Year title. The multinational act also took home Best Music Video and Breakthrough Pop Artist.
Taking the stage, the members prioritized thanking their dedicated fandom, known globally as EYEKONS. "Thank you so much to every single EYEKON," the group shared in a joint statement. "We fundamentally wouldn't be standing on this stage without your universe. We love you so much."
Critically, KPop Demon Hunters emerged as the evening's most decorated property, securing four awards. "Golden," a tracks performed by the film's fictional virtual girl group HUNTR/X, won Song of the Year, Best Vocal Performance, and Best Pop Song. Concurrently, the cinematic project's full compilation was honored as Best Soundtrack.
Producer EJAE, who engineered and performed compositions for HUNTR/X, accepted the structural trophies alongside alternative singer Rei Ami. "The fans entirely carried this song and this film on their backs," EJAE noted emotionally. "We have successfully closed the Honmoon chapter. Thank you to the fans and to the entire KPop Demon Hunters production team."
The comprehensive sweep marks a historic watershed moment for K-pop at a major core U.S. music awards ceremony. With global icons BTS, the localized globalization project KATSEYE, and a specialized Netflix animation all dominating the highest tiers of the ballot, the night offered definitive empirical proof of the genre's permanent saturation into the American cultural mainstream.
