ENA's 'Doctor on the Edge' Slips to 3.9% in Episode 7 After Three Weeks Above 5%
ENA's Monday-Tuesday drama 'Doctor on the Edge' posted its lowest rating yet in episode 7, falling to 3.9% after three straight weeks above 5%. The dip comes as viewers voice frustration with the show's slow pacing, raising questions about whether the series can rebuild momentum in its back half.
According to Nielsen Korea, the episode that aired on the 22nd drew a 3.9% rating among paid households nationwide. The drop follows three consecutive weeks in the 5% range, a level that had positioned the series as one of ENA's stronger cable performers this season.
The episode leaned into emotional weight rather than plot movement. Yook Ha-ri, played by Shin Ye-eun, found herself caught between Doh Ji-ui, played by Lee Jae-wook, who has kept his distance, and Oh Mi-ja, played by Gil Hae-yeon, who is quietly preparing to say goodbye.
After hearing from Hyun Chi-yeon, played by Hong Min-ki, that Oh Mi-ja had given up on treatment, Yook Ha-ri witnessed her preparing for the end firsthand. She turned her back on Doh Ji-ui, hurt that he had chosen the path of a doctor over staying by her side.
Doh Ji-ui was struggling too. When Choi Jin-bae, played by Kim Ja-young, asked him to understand why Yook Ha-ri was pulling away, he could not hide his conflicted feelings. Oh Mi-ja asked him to stay close to Yook Ha-ri, but the distance between them did not close.
A heavy rainstorm on the fictional island of Pyeondong-do brought an emergency. A patient died before the medical team could act, and the loss pulled Doh Ji-ui back into painful memories. He performed surgery to prepare the body for the family, but the death notice and his inability to be there for Yook Ha-ri weighed on him.
Yook Ha-ri, meanwhile, was burning with fever. When Doh Ji-ui came to care for her, she pressed him: "You're a doctor who stitches up patients even after they're gone. So why won't you take care of my heart?" She begged him not to give up on Oh Mi-ja. Her plea moved both Doh Ji-ui and Oh Mi-ja, but nothing changed.
It was Doh Ji-ui who finally reached her. He told Yook Ha-ri what Oh Mi-ja truly felt and said she needed to face reality. Yook Ha-ri broke down in tears, then found the courage to act on his words.
She went to Oh Mi-ja to apologize for all the time she had spent avoiding the truth, and promised to be afraid alongside her. But Oh Mi-ja had already passed away. Yook Ha-ri collapsed in tears over words she never got to deliver, while Doh Ji-ui watched with quiet grief.
The question now is whether the emotional payoff of episode 7 can pull viewers back, or whether the pacing concerns that have built over recent weeks will keep weighing on the numbers.
