Jung Chae-yeon's TVING Drama Finalizes Title as 'M: Reboot' After Switch
TVING's upcoming drama starring Jung Chae-yeon has settled on its final title after months of back-and-forth. The TVING original will move forward as "M: Reboot," the platform confirmed on June 24.
The production had been weighing two options, "M: Reboot" and "M: Mixed twins," before landing on the original working title. The series is an adaptation of "M," a 10-episode summer horror miniseries that aired on MBC 32 years ago. Industry watchers initially expected the remake to land on MBC, but the project recently shifted to TVING.
The title itself has had a winding path. During early casting, actors met under the name "M: Reboot." By the time the cast gathered for the script reading, the project had been renamed "M: Mixed twins," with banners on site reflecting that version. The team then reverted to the original "M: Reboot." Filming is now underway.
The new version reworks the story as a sci-fi horror thriller. Director Lim Dae-woong, known for his work on horror titles such as "Teacher's Grace" (Seuseung-ui Eunhye) and "Horror Stories" (Museoun Iyagi), is at the helm. The script comes from writers Hong Eun-mi and Lee Jung-eun, whose past credits include the films "Missing" and "Hidden Face."
Production is led by KT Studio Genie, the studio behind hit dramas including "Taxi Driver" (Jaebeol X Hyeongsa) and "Our Beloved Summer," along with Big Ocean ENM and Slingshot Studio.
The shift from broadcast TV to streaming, paired with the genre reframing, points to how Korean studios are now treating legacy MBC properties less as nostalgia plays and more as IP to be rebuilt for a global streaming audience.
