"ENHYPEN Is Six Members"...ENHYPEN's Leader Jungwon Draws Firm Line
ENHYPEN leader Jungwon addressed fans directly through Weverse Live following the group's concert in Peru on July 8. He asked audiences to stop bringing former member Heeseung into current concert fan chants and online discussions in ways that continue to create conflict within the fandom.
Currently on their Latin American leg of their "BLOOD SAGA" tour, Jungwon explained that he began the livestream specifically because he felt the issue could no longer be ignored. Speaking as a representative of the group, he said the members had discussed the matter together and shared the same position.
"I'm going to be very clear because I don't want to speak vaguely anymore," Jungwon said. "Now… ENHYPEN is six members. ENHYPEN is six members."
His comments come after recent concerts and schedules, where some fans continued adding Heeseung's name into fan chants despite his departure from the group back in March. In countries such as Brazil, the practice sparked debate among ENGENEs, with some viewing it as an expression of loyalty to ENHYPEN's past and others calling it disruptive and disrespectful to the current members.
Jungwon acknowledged that many fans still feel attached to the group's earlier chapter, but said the repeated insistence that "ENHYPEN is seven" has led to arguments within the fandom and has begun affecting the group's performances.
"To be completely honest, it also disrupts our performances. It really does," he said. "No one wants ENGENEs to fight each other. The company doesn’t want that. ENGENEs don’t want that. And most importantly, the six of us don’t want that."
The moment also reflects a larger tension within idol fandom culture, where emotional attachment can sometimes blur the line between support and refusal to accept an artist's present reality. While fans may feel grief or nostalgia when a member leaves, continuing to impose that past onto current performances can place the remaining members in an uncomfortable position, especially during concerts meant to celebrate their work as they are now.
Previously, member Jay had already brought this topic up for fans during his birthday Weverse Live broadcast in April. There, he had stated "You keep fighting by mentioning the number of members, whether it's six or seven, and while I'm fine with it, please don't do that to the other members." However it seems the pleas fell on deaf ears as almost three months later, the debate continued amongst fans about the numbers of members, to the point it had to once again be addressed.
During his recent live, Jungwon stressed that his comments were not meant to criticize fans in Brazil or Peru, noting that the concerts themselves were meaningful and well received. However, he made clear that fans who continue to create conflict over the group's lineup should reconsider their actions.
"So from now on, I personally won’t consider people who continue to stir up these kinds of conflicts to be fans," he said.
By addressing the issue directly, Jungwon drew a firm boundary between remembering ENHYPEN's past and disrupting the group's present. His message was not only a request for order during concerts, but also a reminder that support for artists must include respect for the people standing on stage now.
