Inside RESCENE's Rise: 1,500 Videos, a New Dorm, and a Viral Hit
K-pop group RESCENE is finally getting its moment, and the members are still trying to process it. On the November 11 episode of MBC's variety show "Omniscient Interfering View," the group opened up about their sudden chart run and the two years of work that led here.
Members Woni and Minami appeared in the studio and spoke honestly about a rise that still feels unreal to them. Their 2023 single "Love Attack" recently climbed back up the domestic music charts and hit No. 1, two years after its original release. The turning point came when BTS's Jung Kook shared a cover video by Minami on his social media, pushing the group to the center of the conversation. "It's surreal that our name is even on the chart right now," Woni said.
The success did not come overnight. RESCENE's label was launched with just 10 million won (about $7,000), and the CEO and a director drove the members to schedules themselves. They personally put together profiles, handwritten letters, and cakes to promote the group. The members said they made about 1,500 pieces of content over the past two years to get their name out, a number that surprised the studio panel.
The episode then followed RESCENE back to Geoje, the coastal city that became the launchpad for the viral "Geoje Yaho" trend. Locals and fans came out to greet the group, and Woni held a small fan meeting in her hometown. She teared up while reuniting with the mother of a childhood friend who had looked after her when she was young. In one scene, the members ran into veteran actress Park Jung-soo and shouted "Geoje Yaho" together.
The show also revealed the group's new dorm. The five members had been sharing a single bathroom in their old place, and they cheered as they walked through the bigger apartment and found their own rooms. The director said she handled the interior design herself. "The old place caused them stress. I wanted this one to actually feel like a place they can rest," she said. Watching the segment, comedian Lee Young-ja said she wanted to keep watching RESCENE grow.
For a group that spent two years posting content into the void, a chart-topping song, a Jungkook cosign, and a new roof feel like the first real payoff. What comes next will decide whether this run is a moment or a career.
