DAY6's Young K Drops 10kg Ahead of Solo Album 'YOUNGEST' Release
DAY6 bassist Young K is returning as a solo artist, and he lost 10 kilograms to prepare for it. His second solo studio album, "YOUNGEST," drops July 27 at 6 p.m. KST.
Young K spoke about the release at a press interview held recently in Dongdaemun district, Seoul.
The singer said he leaned hard into his diet for the comeback. "I lost about 10 kilograms over four to five months to look better," he said. "I did it through food alone, no exercise. I called my parents to thank them for giving me a body that held up without getting too on-edge through all of that. My health check came back with no issues."
Young K also shared a rare bit of praise from JYP Entertainment CEO Jung Wook. "The CEO told me the music video came out well," he said. "It was the first time he'd ever said that to me about a music video. He told me, 'Young-hyun, the music video turned out great. You handled it well.'"
The singer will open his solo tour from August 14 to 16 at Inspire Arena in Incheon. He said he plans to gain the weight back for the shows. "You need stamina to run a concert," he said. "So now I'm thinking about putting it back on."
"YOUNGEST" is described as Young K's current answer to the many questions he has asked himself over the years. The album carries 15 tracks in total, led by the title track "Shut The Door." The tracklist also includes "Marionette," "F world," "Hey Honey," "Cheering Song" (Eungwonga), "SPIKE," "Yonge St.," "million reasons," "100 Reasons We'll Break Up (with JINJOO of DNCE)" (Uriga Heeojil 100gaji Iyu), "Drivin' into Hell," "whatever," "Goodbye, Love," "Heading Home" (Jibeuro Hyanghanda), "Baby's Breath" (Angaekkot), and "Coffee in the Studio" (Jageopsireseo Coffee-reul).
For Young K, this is the second full-length under his own name and the boldest step yet outside the band that made him. The 10-kilogram drop and the CEO's rare stamp of approval sit at the front of the story, but the real test starts in August, when he stands on an arena stage alone and finds out what "YOUNGEST" sounds like in a room full of fans.
