With Jay Park, Can 'FLIRTY' Become Dayoung's Signature Hit?
Dayoung, a member of the K-pop girl group WJSN and a solo artist in her own right, is back with a high-profile partner. She has brought in singer Jay Park for her latest single, and the collaboration puts a clear question on the table: can "FLIRTY" become her next signature hit?
Dayoung released "FLIRTY," a collaboration single with Jay Park, on Aug. 4 at 6 p.m. KST. The track is a pop song built around the rush of a new connection and a confident, playful attitude. It leans into curiosity, anticipation, and the fun of a relationship you cannot quite predict. Dayoung took part in writing and composing the song, as she has done on her previous solo work.
The pairing is what draws the eye. Dayoung and Jay Park are 12 years apart in age, but their two-shots in the music video do not feel forced. The concept photos released ahead of the single already made the rounds online for a mood that suggested a real couple. Their voices sit together comfortably on the track too, with two very different tones pulling the song's flirtation in the same direction.
Dayoung has already shown she can carry a solo release. Her solo debut song "body," released last year, left a strong impression with listeners. It landed on year-end "best K-pop of 2025" lists at Billboard, NME, and The Hollywood Reporter, giving her a foothold overseas.
The Jay Park team-up looks like a calculated next move. Her second digital single, "What's a girl to do," released in April, did not land with the same impact as "body." To settle in as a solo artist, she needs a track the public actually attaches to her name. A collaboration that raises both the musical bar and the level of public attention is a reasonable answer to that problem.
The song is also built with a global audience in mind. The lyrics are mostly in English, with Korean used as accents rather than the base language. That structure lines up with the current K-pop push toward overseas markets. Jay Park brings a strong international fanbase into the room as well, which gives the track a natural path to global listeners. The comments under the music video are already filled with positive reactions from fans abroad.
"FLIRTY" leans on performance as much as on the music. In a Q&A shared through her agency ahead of the comeback, Dayoung said, "For the 'FLIRTY' choreography, since I'm doing this together with Jay Park, I think the synergy will feel more than doubled. I hope people look forward to a performance where the two of us naturally come together." Both artists are strong stage performers, and on stage that chemistry reads clearly.
There is a catch, though. Dayoung already proved she could stand on her own with "body," and she once again helped write and compose "FLIRTY." Even so, the early public reaction has focused on the collaboration itself and the couple-like concept photos rather than on her own work.
The team-up is still a smart call. A partnership with Jay Park, who has a solid overseas fanbase, holds up as a global-market strategy. But Dayoung is already capable of winning attention with her own music, which makes it a shame when the collaboration draws more focus than the song. Whether "FLIRTY" is remembered as "the song with Jay Park" or as a Dayoung signature track is the real thing to watch this promotional cycle.
