BLACKPINK's 10th Anniversary Backlash: Negative Attention Explodes Alongside Chart Surge
BLACKPINK topped both the global and domestic K-POPIT BOARD rankings following a busy 10th anniversary weekend that brought all four members back together.
According to K-POPIT BOARD, the K-POP analytics index, BLACKPINK ranked No. 1 on the Aug. 11 Global Rise chart with a Power Index (PWR_GL) score of 78. The group also topped on the Domestic Rise chart with a Power Index (PWR_KR) score of 68. The Power Index combines data from music charts, social media activity and news coverage to measure an artist's overall momentum.
Fan activity was one of the biggest drivers behind the rise. BLACKPINK posted a Fandom Health Index of 90.1, the highest among K-POP artists over the weekend.
The group also achieved a perfect 100.0 Viral Conversion Rate, which measures how strongly YouTube attention translates into Spotify streaming. In BLACKPINK's case, the online buzz surrounding the anniversary was followed by increased listening activity, showing that the renewed attention extended beyond social media.
BLACKPINK celebrated its 10th anniversary on Aug. 8, with Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa reuniting as a full group for a meet-and-greet with 40 fans at the National Museum of Korea. The members also went live on Weverse shortly before the event to mark the anniversary together.
The reunion came after some frustration among the fans in the days leading up to the anniversary. With few details about anniversary plans announced beforehand, fans had questioned how the milestone would be celebrated.
Jisoo later acknowledged those concerns, telling fans that she knew how important the 10th anniversary was and had hoped to meet more of them. She also became emotional while receiving fan letters after the event.
Some fans still wished for a larger celebration. Still, the conversation surrounding the anniversary has since become more positive, with much of the attention turning to seeing all four members together again and their messages thanking the fans for the past decade.
The anniversary weekend ultimately gave BLACKPINK a fresh burst of momentum, with the group's reunion driving renewed activity across its fandom and in the music industry.
