Kim Hye-jun: Love Is "Willingly Doing Something You Don't Have To"
Actor Kim Hye-jun has her own definition of love. To her, it means willingly doing something you don't have to do.
Kim sat down for an interview on August 13 at a cafe in Seoul's Jongno district to talk about her role as Ji-an in Disney+'s "A Shop for Killers Season 2." The stylish action series follows Ji-an after she takes over as the new head of the shopping mall following a brutal handover. Alongside Jin-man, played by Lee Dong-wook, who has returned alive, she launches a full counterattack against the global Babylon forces.
In episodes three and four, Ji-an falls for Woo-jin, a young man from an island village played by Yoo Hyun-soo. The romance ends in tragedy when Woo-jin is shot and killed while protecting her.
"Woo-jin's love is pure. There are no conditions attached," Kim said. "That's what made it so moving."
She then joked about how the story would feel in real life. "But if it actually happened, it would be terrifying. It would mean I got caught up in something like that. Hopefully nothing like that ever happens."
Kim went on to share her own thoughts on love. "I think love is willingly doing something. Doing something you don't really have to do. Like going out to pick someone up when you could just be lying at home resting. I think every form of love is about willingly doing something. Being willing to put up with the hassle."
