wave to earth Brings Memories to Life With Lee Sang Yi in "hyang" MV
K-band wave to earth has unveiled a new music video for "hyang," one of the double title tracks from its second full-length album "bad pieces."
The band released the music video through its official YouTube channel on August 14 at 1 p.m. KST, continuing promotions for the album following its release on August 7.
Actor Lee Sang Yi takes center stage in the video, translating the song's emotions into a quiet, dialogue-free performance. Through the subtle changes in his expressions, gaze and movements, Lee portrays a character confronted with lingering memories from the past.
The music video centers around the way a particular scent can unexpectedly bring old memories back to the surface. Without relying on dialogue, Lee captures the traces of those memories and the emotions attached to them, visually expanding on the themes at the heart of the track.
"hyang," which translates to "scent," explores the experience of recalling moments from the past through smell. The track pairs sensory-driven lyrics with wave to earth's signature delicate sound to capture the nostalgia and emotions that can suddenly resurface through something seemingly ordinary.
"bad pieces" marks wave to earth's first new album in approximately two years. Inspired by John Lennon and Yoko Ono's 1969 "Bed Peace" protest, the project sees the band expanding beyond its familiar lo-fi jazz foundations by incorporating new instruments and experimenting with a broader range of sounds.
Through the album, wave to earth also sought to capture where the band currently stands, delivering some of its most personal stories while maintaining the intimate sound that has become central to its identity.
Following the release of "bad pieces," wave to earth will take the album on the road with "the pieces tour." Beginning in September, the world tour will visit 30 cities, including 21 across North America and eight in Asia before heading to Seoul.
