Ahn Bo-hyun Drives 'Flex X Cop 2' to Ratings Highs on SBS
Ahn Bo-hyun is once again proving his power as a leading man, this time carrying SBS's Friday-Saturday drama "Flex X Cop 2" through a strong ratings run. The series, produced by Studio S, Big Ocean ENM, and BA Entertainment, has seen its ratings climb week after week, and its star is a big reason why.
In the show, Ahn plays Jin Yi-soo, a billionaire detective who uses his fortune to bend, and often break, the usual rules of police work. The character was already a hit in the first season. In the sequel, he comes back looser, friendlier, and more openly playful, the kind of role only Ahn seems able to sell. Under the swagger and the smirk is a decent, warmhearted guy, and that mix is what has viewers locked in.
Jin's chemistry with the Violent Crimes Unit 1 team has deepened too, and it is one of the show's most enjoyable threads. In season one, he was the outsider with too much money and no real place on the squad. Now he sits at the center of the team. His easy charm wins over the people around him, including squad leader Ju Hye-ra, played by Jung Eun-chae, who used to snap at him on sight. He even sulks a little when the team goes out for dinner without him, a small, funny beat that has landed well with viewers.
The styling is doing real work here as well. Season one leaned on sharp, classic luxury suits. "Flex X Cop 2" mixes in more casual and playful pieces, and Ahn's frame carries all of it. The show also has fun with case-driven costume changes, from a Mexican mariachi look to a rougher, streetwise style. A preview for episode 7, airing on the 28th, shows Jin dressed as a magician, aiming a long rifle. It is the kind of image built to spike anticipation for the next broadcast.
Ahn keeps stretching the role, and each week he makes a stronger case that Jin Yi-soo is another career-defining part for him. What he brings to the character next is quickly becoming one of the bigger questions in Korean drama right now.
"Flex X Cop 2" airs Fridays and Saturdays at 9:50 p.m. KST on SBS.
