LG Electronics has entered the idol business, at least temporarily, with the launch of five-member group AI-DOL.

The company revealed AI-DOL's identity on Aug. 28 following a series of teaser videos and digital advertisements across Seoul. Despite the "AI" in the group's name, its members are not virtual characters. AI-DOL consists of five real-life members, Lee Yeon, Moa, Seonghyeon, Heejae and Sua, brought together as part of a campaign for LG's AI WashCombo washer-dryer.

The group has been promoted much like a newly debuting K-POP act, complete with individual member profiles, concept photos, teaser videos, choreography, social media promotions and an original song.

AI-DOL released "I WASH" through its official Instagram account on Aug. 30, with the track reaching No. 1 on Instagram's trending audio chart. Its choreography video also ranked No. 4 among popular Reels, while singer Choi Yena, comedian Lee Sun-min and choreographer Hyojin Choi joined the dance challenge.

Behind the familiar idol rollout is an unusual concept. Each of the five members represents a different feature of the AI WashCombo, including its all-in-one capacity, AI time sensing, AI washing and drying, flat design and MiniWash.

LG said it created AI-DOL to introduce the product to younger consumers in a more engaging way.

The group is set to continue activities through digital channels until the end of September, making its run closer to a monthlong promotional campaign than a conventional K-POP debut.
