"Like Ooh-Ahh," the debut single that launched TWICE on October 20, 2015, announced something difficult to manufacture: a nine-member group whose appeal cut across language barriers from the moment it arrived. Under JYP Entertainment, the group — five Korean members alongside three Japanese and one Taiwanese — grew into one of the most globally visible girl groups of the streaming era, accumulating 26 music videos past the 100-million-view mark on YouTube, a record described at the time of its achievement as unprecedented in K-pop history. Their fandom, known as ONCE, was decisive enough to deliver the group its first win at the American Music Awards in 2026, making TWICE the first K-pop girl group to take home an AMA trophy.
A multinational debut
TWICE emerged through JYP Entertainment's survival programme and debuted with the mini album The Story Begins, its lead single "Like Ooh-Ahh" establishing the group's early template: hook-driven pop built around a large ensemble where distinct personalities could register individually. The group's composition — Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung, and Tzuyu — drew from South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan, a configuration that gave the group a structural foothold in multiple markets from the outset and underpinned their eventual signing with Warner Music Japan for their Japanese releases.
Music & Discography
The early release schedule was relentless. Page Two (2016) produced "Cheer Up," and Twicecoaster: Lane 1 followed the same year. By 2017 the group was releasing multiple projects annually — Signal, Twicecoaster: Lane 2, Twicetagram, and Merry & Happy all appearing within a twelve-month window, with singles including "Likey," "Heart Shaker," and "One More Time" sustaining chart presence across those releases. The Japan-market single "One More Time," issued through Warner Music Japan, marked an early commitment to building a dedicated Japanese audience in parallel with their Korean activity.
The group's output shifted in texture as the decade turned. Feel Special (2019) was followed by the more sonically varied Formula of Love: O+T=<3 (2021), which included "Scientist" and demonstrated a willingness to push further into synth-influenced pop. "Alcohol-Free," promoted that year on American television via an appearance on *The Ellen DeGeneres Show*, and the English-language "The Feels" (released as a single in 2022) both reflected a deliberate effort to reach English-speaking audiences directly rather than through subtitles alone. Taste of Love (2021) and its title track expanded that international push further.
Representative works in their later catalogue include "Moonlight Sunrise," "Set Me Free," "Hare Hare," and "Takedown," titles that indicate a continued evolution in sonic register without a wholesale departure from the melodic pop core that defined their initial run. The group has also maintained a Japanese discography through the #Twice compilation series and the subunit MISAMO — comprising Momo, Sana, and Mina — which has operated as a distinct creative vehicle for their Japanese member trio.
Achievements
Twenty-six music videos reaching 100 million views is the headline streaming figure, one that the group's label and coverage positioned as a K-pop benchmark at the time of the milestone. Award recognition has come from the Asia Artist Awards, the Golden Disk Awards, and the Gaon Chart K-Pop Awards, where the group has received Song of the Month honours. The AMA win in May 2026 for Best Female K-Pop Artist — determined entirely by fan vote — was their second nomination at the ceremony and their first win, a result that underscored the breadth of ONCE's global mobilisation. Television appearances on *The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon* in early 2026 accompanied the North American leg of their sixth world tour.
World tour & live activity
That sixth world tour became the group's largest to date, spanning 81 performances across 44 cities worldwide. The tour's finale was scheduled for KSPO Dome in Seoul in July 2026 — a venue the group outgrew in terms of scale, with coverage noting the dome as the ceiling of available domestic indoor spaces. The European leg of the tour included a Barcelona date where Jeongyeon, who had navigated health challenges related to Cushing's syndrome and earlier side effects from neck disc treatment, performed choreography for her solo track "FIX A DRINK," drawing significant attention from fans following her recovery.
Members
TWICE's nine current members are:
- Nayeon
- Jeongyeon
- Momo
- Sana
- Jihyo
- Mina
- Dahyun
- Chaeyoung
- Tzuyu
Beyond group activity, members have pursued individual projects: Dahyun made her television acting debut, Chaeyoung has drawn attention for photography work, and Sana appeared as a brand ambassador at Prada's White Sun event in Seoul in 2026. The MISAMO subunit — Momo, Sana, and Mina — has maintained its own release and promotional schedule.
Standing
A decade into their career, TWICE occupy a position in K-pop's second generation that few groups have sustained into the streaming and social-media era with consistent commercial footing. The 26-video milestone, the AMA win, and a world tour of 81 dates across 44 cities collectively indicate a group that has converted early domestic dominance into durable international reach. Their multinational composition, once a structural novelty in the JYP Entertainment roster, became in retrospect a template others followed — and one that has continued to serve the group's own cross-market activity across Korean, Japanese, and English-language audiences simultaneously.
