"Birthday Party": Jungkook Greeted by Thousands of ARMY for 29th Birthday at SoFi Stadium
BTS member Jungkook celebrated his birthday surrounded by tens of thousands of ARMY as the group's "ARIRANG" World Tour arrived in Los Angeles.
BTS held the first Los Angeles concert of their "ARIRANG" World Tour at SoFi Stadium on September 1 local time, coinciding with Jungkook's 29th birthday. Fans turned the tour stop into a large-scale birthday celebration, preparing coordinated projects that began during soundcheck and continued throughout the concert.
The celebrations started before the main show. Around 5,000 star-shaped banners were prepared for fans attending soundcheck, while attendees also wore birthday hats and held banners welcoming Jungkook. Upon walking out and seeing the crowd, Jungkook appeared surprised by the scene and remarked, "Birthday party," as he took in the celebration that ARMY had organized.
The projects grew considerably larger once the stadium filled for the main concert. According to fan-organized projects, approximately 40,000 hand banners were prepared, alongside 10,000 birthday hats. Another 70,000 yellow stickers were distributed for fans to place over their phone flashlights, creating a sea of "Golden Lights" throughout SoFi Stadium in reference to Jungkook's nickname, "Golden Maknae."
With tens of thousands of fans participating at the same time, the individual projects combined to turn much of the stadium into a coordinated birthday event. Rather than being limited to a single birthday song or moment during the show, the celebrations followed Jungkook throughout the day, beginning from the moment he first appeared at soundcheck.
The projects inside SoFi Stadium were only one part of the celebrations prepared for Jungkook across Los Angeles. Fan groups organized digital billboards, bus stop advertisements and other displays around the city, extending the birthday celebrations beyond the concert venue. The projects meant that Jungkook's birthday was visible not only among fans attending the concert, but also throughout parts of the city hosting BTS for the tour stop.
BTS also brought their own personal celebration to the stadium. Backstage videos posted by the members showed BTS alongside members of the "ARIRANG" Tour crew congratulating Jungkook before soundcheck began. In the video, Jungkook could be seen blowing out the candles on a cake prepared for him before briefly closing his eyes, seemingly making a birthday wish.
The timing made the first Los Angeles show a particularly memorable stop on BTS' ongoing tour, allowing Jungkook to spend his birthday not only alongside his fellow members and touring crew, but also in front of tens of thousands of ARMY.
As Jungkook continues to celebrate his birthday in front of ARMY, the first Los Angeles date of the tour has ultimately become one big birthday party.
