THE BOYZ's Sangyeon Returns After 18 Months of Military Service

K-pop boy group THE BOYZ leader Sangyeon has completed about 18 months of military service, becoming the first member of the K-pop group to fulfill his mandatory service.

Sangyeon was discharged on the morning of Sept. 16 through the guard post of the Korea Army Cadet Military School in Goesan County, North Chungcheong Province. He enlisted on March 17, 2025, and served on active duty in the Army Military Band.

His fellow THE BOYZ members were expected to visit the site to welcome him back. Sangyeon is the first member of the group to complete his military service.

While he was away, THE BOYZ underwent major changes to its management structure. The nine members took legal action following a dispute with their former agency and later signed exclusive contracts with new agencies for their individual activities.

The group's activities will now be managed by the newly established Seven8 Records. The label is led by executives who have worked with THE BOYZ since the group's debut and will oversee group promotions separately from the members' individual activities.

Born in 1996, Sangyeon debuted in 2017 as the leader and main vocalist of THE BOYZ. Following his return, the group is set to continue its activities as a nine-member act.
