BABYMONSTER Ends Four-Month Break With New Single 'DESERVE'
K-POP group BABYMONSTER is back with a ballad built around its voices. The group released its new digital single, "DESERVE," on the 23rd at 1 p.m. KST across music streaming platforms.
It is the group's first new song in four months. Its last release was "SUGAR HONEY ICE TEA," which came out in June.
"DESERVE" is a pop ballad built on synthesizer melodies, with a retro feel added to the arrangement. The lyrics look back on a past relationship and wish the other person well.
That marks a clear change of pace. In earlier promotions, BABYMONSTER filled its stages mostly with fast hip-hop and dance tracks. This time, the song puts the focus on singing, with vocal parts that build as the track moves toward its end.
The music video, released alongside the song, tells its story in a drama-style format. It follows the conflict and changing emotions between its characters. In the second half, the video cuts back and forth between visual effects and close shots of the members acting out those feelings.
A release-day poster went up on the group's official channels at midnight that day. It shows the members staring straight into the camera against red lighting.
"'DESERVE' is a track with a feel we've never shown before," the group said through its agency. "Rather than vocal technique, we focused our practice on getting the flow of emotion across. We hope people can listen to it comfortably, in a way that fits the fall season."
BABYMONSTER will perform the new song on two weekly TV music shows, a key promotional stage for K-pop acts. The group appears on MBC's "Show! Music Core" on the 24th and SBS's "Inkigayo" on the 25th. For both stages, the members will sing with handheld microphones.
The release lands in the middle of a busy touring stretch. The group is continuing its second world tour, "2026-27 BABYMONSTER WORLD TOUR [춤 (CHOOM)]," which covers 31 shows in 18 cities across five continents.
For a group that built its name on high-energy performance, "DESERVE" is a test of a different kind. With a world tour underway and a stripped-back ballad on the charts, BABYMONSTER is asking fans to hear it, not just watch it.
