When iKON released "Love Scenario" in January 2018, the song became something closer to a cultural phenomenon than a routine comeback single. It spent weeks atop South Korean charts, crossed into mainstream broadcast playlists, and was sung back to the group by crowds who had encountered it far outside the usual K-pop pipeline. For a group that had debuted in 2015 under considerable industry weight — as the flagship boy group of YG Entertainment, the label behind BIGBANG and 2NE1 — "Love Scenario" was the moment iKON proved its reach extended well beyond a curated fanbase.

Debut and formation

iKON's path to debut was unusually public. The group's core members were assembled and tested through *WIN: Who Is Next*, a 2013 survival program that pitted two YG trainee teams against each other, and then further refined through the 2014 follow-up series *Mix & Match*, which introduced and evaluated additional candidates. By the time the group officially debuted on September 15, 2015, the members had spent years in front of cameras as much as in rehearsal rooms, entering the industry with an audience already formed and expectations already set.

Music and discography

The group's early catalog leaned into the hip-hop-forward sound YG had built its identity around. Bobby, one of iKON's rappers, had separately won the second season of the televised rap competition *Show Me the Money* in 2014, lending the group credibility in that lane before the debut single had even landed. The twin EPs released simultaneously at debut — *Welcome Back* — signaled an intention to establish the group quickly and broadly.

The shift that defined iKON's longer commercial trajectory came with the 2018 mini-album *New Kids: Continue*, which contained "Love Scenario." Written and produced by B.I, who had served as the group's primary in-house songwriter and creative driver, the track's melodic warmth and lyrical accessibility marked a deliberate turn from the harder sonic territory of the group's earlier work. B.I departed from iKON in June 2019 under circumstances that drew significant media attention, leaving the group as a six-member act. By early 2026, Kim Jin-hwan (Jay), Bobby, Jung Chan-woo (Chan), and Song Yun-hyeong (Song) had completed their service, setting the stage for a full-group return.

In the lead-up to that return, the group produced *Reunion Theater*, a self-directed variety content series that documented the members reconnecting ahead of their comeback. The final episode, released in May 2026, drew attention for its candid chemistry and the sense of continuity it projected — a deliberate reintroduction as much as an entertainment piece. Bobby, who became a father during the period away from the group, participated alongside the other returning members.

The full reunion culminated in the announcement and launch of the iKON FOUREVER WORLD TOUR, opening in Seoul at Jangchung Arena on May 16 and 17, 2026 — the first time all members performed together following the completion of military service obligations. The tour's itinerary spans cities across Asia, Europe, and the Americas, representing the group's broadest international live campaign in several years.

Standing and significance

iKON occupies a particular position in the second-generation-to-third-generation transition of the K-pop industry: a group built in the mold of the older YG hip-hop tradition that nonetheless produced one of the genre's most broadly heard songs of the late 2010s. "Love Scenario" remains a reference point for how an act can transcend its original audience without abandoning its identity, and the group's fandom — known as iKONIC — has remained organized and active through an extended period of disruption.
