EVAN Reflects on Solo Debut: "I've Never Made Music Just for Myself"
Ahead of his solo debut with the release of his first digital single “RIDE OR DIE,” EVAN shared his thoughts on debuting and expressed his desires to be able to deliver hope and comfort to listeners with his music.
EVAN will officially make his solo debut on June 22 at 6 p.m. KST with his project “RIDE OR DIE.” It is meant to be a project which introduces both his musical identity and creative direction to listeners and fans who have always just known him as part of ENHYPEN. EVAN has taken an active role in the release, the writing, composition, production and overall visual creative process for both tracks on the single.
The release will consist of two tracks, the alternative rock title track “Ride or Die” and the more easy-listening indie-pop B-side titled “Overflow.” Both tracks are meant to showcase the contrasting musical styles while also reflecting different aspects of the artist’s emotions and identity.
Speaking more on his debut, EVAN expressed his gratitude to fans and also emphasized his goal of creating meaningful music.
"I hope many people can gain hope and comfort from my music," he said. "Just as the artists I admired gave me strength through their songs, I hope my music can become a reason for someone to keep going."
He also revealed that the initial inspiration for “Ride or Die” stemmed from watching videos of rock bands performing online. EVAN was drawn to what he described as the “purity of live music” and from this he began developing a song which would be centered on the idea of pursuing what one truly desires without being held back by worries nor doubts.
Furthermore, he highlighted the performance aspect of the title track, noting that its appeal becomes even more evident on stage. According to EVAN, the choreography was designed with a clear narrative structure and included various groove-based movements which audiences will be able to easily follow.
On the other hand, the B-side track “Overflow” was created from the complex emotions that EVAN was experiencing at the time of writing. He described the song as a track suited to everyday moments, whether it be a commute to school or work, the track will allow listeners to connect with its emotions in their own way.
When it came to addressing the decision to place two completely different songs on the same release, EVAN explained that the contrast reflects both the genres he enjoys and the genres he also feels most confident performing. He further adds that this balance between different musical influences will form an important part of his artistic identity.
Looking ahead, EVAN shared that his primary goal for this promotion period is to hear listeners say that the music he is putting out is good. He also expressed excitement about upcoming performances which include "The Fillin' Live with EVAN," a busking event along the Han River, as well as appearances at the 2026 Busan One Asia Festival and KCON LA 2026.
"I've never made music simply for my own satisfaction," EVAN said in a message to fans. "Every song was created with the hope that fans would enjoy it. I've worked hard preparing the performances as well, so I hope everyone looks forward to them."
