Rising Duo dodree Returns With Summer-Themed Single "HAWWAH"
Continuing their blend of Korean traditional influences and contemporary music, JYP Entertainment's newest female duo dodree is set to make a comeback on June 24 with their second digital single "HAWWAH (夏渦)."
Aiming to project the themes of choice and desire while tracing emotions which range from hesitant attraction to longing and anticipation, "HAWWAH (夏渦)" is set to contain three tracks. A title track of the same name, their pre-release titled “Lilac,” and “Four Seasons Love Letter.” This comes after their official debut in January of this year with their first digital single “Just Like a Dream.”
The title track "HAWWAH (夏渦)" uses the metaphor of a "summer whirlpool" to portray a moment when hidden desires grow into conscious choices. The song will combine dodree's self-described "K-rossover Pop" style with dance elements, incorporating gayageum, Korea’s most iconic traditional string instrument, riffs and atmospheric synth sounds in order to blend both genres successfully.
Ahead of the release, dodree has also unveiled concept photos and a music video teaser featuring modern interpretations of traditional Korean aesthetics. These include traditional hanbok-inspired styling and traditional accessories such as Binyeo hairpins.
Consisting of traditional Korean music (gugak) major Na Young Ju and Korean dance major Lee Song Hyun, dodree has built an identity centered around blending Korean cultural elements with contemporary music.
Through "HAWWAH," the duo aims to further develop their musical direction while expanding the scope of their K-rossover Pop sound. Their second digital single "HAWWAH (夏渦)" will be released on all streaming platforms at 6 p.m KST.
