TWICE Jihyo Joins Grammy-Nominated Shenseea on Afrobeat Track 'Distant Lover'
TWICE member Jihyo is stepping outside K-pop for her next release. The vocalist has teamed up with Jamaican singer Shenseea on a new song titled "Distant Lover," set to drop on the 10th through Musicow US.
The collaboration arrives as part of Musicow's Fandom Project, an initiative the company is using to connect Korean and American artists.
Shenseea is one of the biggest names to emerge from Jamaica's current dancehall scene. She has earned two Grammy nominations, charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and the Reggae Albums chart, and won two MOBO Awards in the U.K. Her past collaborators include Megan Thee Stallion, 21 Savage, and Sean Paul. "Distant Lover" marks her first time working with a K-pop artist.
The track is built on an Afrobeat foundation. It pairs Jihyo's vocal tone with Shenseea's dancehall delivery, aiming for a summer feel.
Musicow says the song will be issued through its Fandom Project, which the platform describes as a way to widen exchange between Korean and American musicians and to bring listeners into the process of making and consuming music.
"The goal of this project is to lead exchange between artists at home and abroad and give listeners new options," a Musicow representative said. "A collaboration between Jihyo, known for her vocal ability, and Shenseea, who works in the dancehall genre, is exactly the kind of result the platform is aiming for." The representative added that the company plans to develop more collaborations in different formats going forward.
For Jihyo, the release adds a new stylistic line to her solo output beyond TWICE. For Shenseea, it opens a first door into the K-pop market that many of her pop peers have already walked through.
