Sunmi's "Forever July" Arrives Today With a Rain-Soaked Summer Concept
Sunmi is set to make her comeback with new digital single "Forever July," arriving today at 6 p.m. KST.
The release marks her return with new music in approximately eight months since her first full-length album "HEART MAID" was released. "Forever July" was co-written and co-composed by Sunmi and it aims to explore the emotional uncertainty of unexpected love. Using the imagery of the rainy season to reinterpret the atmosphere typically associated with summer, it hopes to tie in the two in order to convey that uncertainty clearly.
Built around UK garage-inspired rhythms, the track combines soft instrumental textures with Sunmi's signature vocal style. Teasers released ahead of the comeback featured recurring lyrics including "Forever July" and "Would you be mine," offering listeners an early preview of the song's melodic hook.
The visual concept has also reflected the song's themes, with promotional content featuring rain-soaked scenes, umbrellas and wet styling in contrast to the bright, carefree imagery often associated with summer releases.
Known for pairing distinctive concepts with each comeback, Sunmi has built a catalog that includes songs such as "Gashina," "Heroine," "Siren," "pporappippam," and "CYNICAL." With "Forever July," she continues that approach through a concept centered on a different interpretation of the summer season.
"Forever July" will be released on major streaming platforms at 6 p.m. KST on July 15.
