BTS Is Back at Chile's Estadio Nacional After Weeks of Uncertainty
After weeks of uncertainty surrounding BTS' upcoming concerts in Chile, the group's three scheduled performances at Santiago's Estadio Nacional will now go ahead as originally planned.
On July 21, Chilean promoter DG Medios officially confirmed that the concerts will take place at Estadio Nacional on October 14, 16 and 17 as initially announced. This update comes after the promoter worked alongside Chile’s Ministry of Sport, the National Sports Institute (IND) and stadium officials to develop a revised production plan that addresses concerns over the venue’s playing surface.
"We thank the Ministry of Sport, IND and Estadio Nacional for collaborating with us to find a solution that allows BTS' concerts in Chile to be held at Estadio Nacional on October 14, 16 and 17, as originally scheduled," DG Medios said in an official statement. The company added that it remains committed to delivering a world-class concert while fully complying with the technical requirements established by authorities to protect the stadium's infrastructure.
The confirmation follows weeks of discussions after Chilean authorities initially declined to approve the concert's original 360-degree stage configuration, citing concerns that the extensive production setup could damage the stadium's football pitch. The decision prompted widespread disappointment among fans, many of whom had already booked international flights and accommodation after tickets sold out almost immediately.
Alongside the promoter's announcement, Chile's Ministry of Sport also released a statement explaining why approval was ultimately granted. According to the ministry, DG Medios submitted a revised proposal incorporating a series of technical modifications designed to reduce the production's impact on the stadium's grounds. Rather than driving heavy machinery directly across the field, equipment will now operate primarily from the athletics track using large cranes. The production will also install a specialized protective covering that allows ventilation and grass recovery while the concerts are taking place.
The ministry stated that the revised measures are supported by engineering studies and are expected to significantly reduce the field's recovery time compared to the original production plan. Officials also confirmed they have informed the Universidad de Chile football club, the Chilean Football Federation (ANFP) and Club Atlético Santiago to ensure future sporting events can be coordinated without conflict.
The decision marks the end of one of the biggest logistical controversies surrounding BTS' current world tour. After weeks of negotiations fans can now look ahead to the October concerts knowing they will take place at the venue originally promised, while new safeguards aim to balance both the scale of the production and the protection of the stadium.
